In tonight’s Chicago Fire finale recap, Herrmann was an Olympic champion of a complainer. He was now so busy complaining about the construction of their new house that his wife told him to cut it out. Cindy said things were going in their favor. They got their permits.
The construction crew was about to pour the foundation. She reminded him not to go looking for trouble when everything was going so well. Herrmann listened to her.
He knew she’d never steer him wrong and it gave him an idea. He wanted to renew their vows. They’ve been through so much in thirty-two years of marriage that they should celebrate it. And there’s no better way than renewing their vows.
Unfortunately, this was a full seventy hours before the incident they faced in the field. The firefighters were trying to vent a building that was on fire. They heard it sagging underneath and were forced to evacuate down the ladder fast.
That was some of them. The others were still inside of the building looking for anyone that might be trapped.
They all had something going on with them. Kidd was worried about her husband. He got called to come in at the CFD. The couple was worried he got into trouble again.
It wasn’t that. The CFD brought in Chief Pascal to talk Severide out of taking the OFI position. OFI needed a new captain. Severide was the best fit for it. He was about to be promoted to captain,
He also has extensive experience with that department. Its why he got in trouble the last time. He was too invested in fire investigations to properly follow protocol. His previous chiefs have overlooked it. Chief Hopkins brought it to everyone’s attention. He took it back, but its hard to take it fully back and now Severide was being offered an official position in OFI.
Pascal was brought back just to tell Severide don’t take the job. He did his best to convince him. He reminded him that he left him in charge of 51. Not anyone else.
Severide talked to Pascal and he confessed that he was torn because investigations was his strong suit. He closed more cases than some people in that department.
He also cleared Van Meter, who was once leading OFI, of a serious infraction that could’ve destroyed his career. Severide therefore needed to think about his next move and he was glad to have Isaiah back in town to remind him of his priorities.
His former foster son was visiting with the family friend that was raising him. They came for a long weekend and it allowed Isaiah to stay with Kidd and Severide for a few days. He was deeply missed. Kidd was also concerned about him not calling before showing up at their station. She has just gotten back from visiting him.
He never mentioned a visit and she felt something was off. It was her maternal alarm going off. She tried to bring it up with Severide. Only he didn’t see anything wrong. He took the teenager at his word.
It took Kidd calling Lydia to learn the truth. Lydia wasn’t in Chicago. She actually thought he was at his mom’s place and it turns out he ran away to Chicago. He took a bus. He didn’t tell anyone.
He was upset so he returned home. His mom had had a recent setback with her physical therapy. She didn’t think she could take care of him anymore. She thought he could live with Lydia full-time. Isaiah disagreed. He didn’t want to stay with a friend when he had two foster parents back in Chicago. He was happier with them than Lydia.
This too was before the incident. Cruz also received some unexpected news. His wife Chloe was pregnant again. He would never say it out loud to her only he was hoping for another boy. They have two boys at home. He was familiar with raising boys and girls scare him a little. The unexpected news wasn’t the pregnancy itself.
It was the part where they found out they were expecting twins. It doubles the chance of having a little girl. Which was what ended up happening because Chloe suddenly wanted to know what they were expecting.
Chloe originally wanted to find out the sex at birth. She changed her mind after learning it was twins. Cruz was so panicked that they rested early. They didn’t even make it to Herrmann’s vow renewal.
Everyone else was able to make it. This included Pascal. Isaiah also showed up. They celebrated the happy couple and the theme of the night was gratitude. They even had a gratitude wall. Violet put up a photo of her with late boyfriend on the wall. It made Novak realized time was short so she told Vasquez that it wouldn’t have been a fling if they ever got together.
She didn’t know it then that Vasquez was reconsidering staying a firefighter. His dad put in a good word at the police academy. He still has his backers there and Vasquez always wanted to be a cop.
He fell into firefighting. That’s not where his heart is. He misses the job he dreamed of as a kid. He only left because his dad’s imprisonment had tarnished the legacy. He can go back now. He’s proven he’s good at the job when he went looking for his friends after they disappeared. He just has to think about it now.
Mouch also broke some bad news to Herrmann. They actually both had bad news. Herrmann was considering leaving the CFD. Mouch turned the book about their friendship into a romance so that he could sell it to a publisher.
Yet, they both forgave each other. They were later at the scene of the fire when the roof gave way. It trapped people inside of the building. It also took out whoever was still on the roof. There’s no telling who survived and who might’ve died on the season finale’s cliffhanger.
THE END!
