RECAP: A read headed girl is speaking to a man on a metro, the man gets out of the metro; but the man forgot his briefcase. The redheaded woman notices it and tries to to get it to him, though it seems that it was the man’s plan to begin with to leave it there. The briefcase begins to release what seems to be a toxic gas of some sort and it ends up having everyone choking to death getting all veiny.
Liz is in her home home decorating the wall, Tom enters the room and tries to convince her into moving. Ressler calls Liz and tells her to turn on the news channel to see the incident about the briefcase. Liz arrives on the scene of the crime meeting up with Ressler; Ressler is then met with a man who shows both Liz and him the surveillance camera footage of the man with the briefcase. Liz along with Ressler talk to Meera about the case, it seems that Meera believes that it was home grown. Liz gets a call from Red who’s got information on the investigation, though he starts it off with being sarcastic; he mentions how they need to meet up in order for him to give her the information, turns out the man with the briefcase is named Fredrick Barnes, who was a chemist with toxins. Though Fredrick was more of scientist he was a savant in mass killings, turns out that he left his home and auctioned off secrets; Liz makes a comparison with Fredrick and Red that he doesn’t care much for. Red talks about how Barnes is now the most dangerous man in the world, due to him starting to use his own weapons for mass killings.
At the General Hospital, Ressler and Liz talk to a doctor who tells them about how the people who died had there arteries in their face explode and that it took two minutes. The doctor brings the two of them into the room to show a young boy named Ryan who was affected by the gas, it turns out that the disease is in fact a very rare one and that it hasn’t been seen that much in the past. The doctor mentions how Barnes must have had a highly toxic chemical, it cuts to Liz and Ressler talking to Red; Red mentions that this chemical is not easy at all to find and that he knows people who’ve got some he’s set up a meeting with a man who will give information about Barnes. Red goes and catches a plane, he asks Liz to go to Cuba with him, being sarcastic and he doesn’t let it die down for a while; Liz mentions that she’s found Barnes’ research, Red apologizes because she is angry with him. Red brings up how he put the blame on her husband Tom, she doesn’t it take it well. Red then says that it isn’t fun without Liz, so her won’t be leaving because of that reason. Liz gets into a car and drives off, Red gets into his own car and Luli is there. Red looks through a folder with Luli for a moment and then they drive off. Liz and Ressler talk to a woman about Barnes, the woman mentions that he never had a personal life and her husband then says that he was in his lab most of the time. The last time the woman saw Barne was five years ago, her son comes down and asks to go over to a friend’s house, but she tells him not so fast for now. Liz asks for Barnes’ contact information, she asks if her son has the same disease the people on the metro were infected with. The woman mentions how her son Ethan is in fact Barnes’ son; Ethan got the disease when he was five, Barnes’ tried to get his research funded on the disease but he never succeeded in it. Liz finds out why Barnes’ released the disease on the metro, he wants to infect a ton of people in order for people to fund for his cure of the disease, to give it some recognition.
It looks like Red has arrived in Cuba and he visits an elderly women who is baking, he speaks to her in Spanish and gets himself some food. Red meets up with a man who I believe was called Manny; they talk about the incredibly dangerous chemical that Barnes’ used, Manny questions why Red wants so much information on this chemical. Liz calls Dembe and asks how Red is doing with trying to buy the chemical, Red is trying to persuade Manny to get the chemicals for him; he looks like he succeeded with a million dollar persuasion. Dembe asks Red if Manny bought the bait, Red believes that Manny believed him that he’ll call Barnes soon. Manny ends up dialing his phone and calling someone, Red then calls Liz and tells her that he’s got Barnes’ location in a very sarcastic manner, like usual. Barnes is seen once again carrying a briefcase in a courtroom, with what I believe contains the chemicals that’ll end up giving everyone the rare disease. Barnes leaves his briefcase in the jury room and makes an excuse to leave the courthouse to get something from his car, now he locks the court room where he placed his brief case in. Liz and Ressler are quickly trying to stop Barnes’ from succeeding, Barnes walks away from the court room door. It cuts to the suitcase inside the room starting to let out the gas, everyone in the room is coughing and pleading for help, Ressler gets to the door and can’t open it; firemen make their way near him. Ressler takes a gas mask and oxygen tank to save people within the room, Liz is going up the stairs to chase Burns. Ressler enters the room and sees everyone collapsed on the floor with their faces all veiny, Liz is still chasing Burns. Ressler finds a woman who wasn’t affected by the gas and tries to help her out. Burns is about to walk out, but Liz is behind him which causes him to freak out and take a man as hostage with a gun. Liz points her gun at Barnes, but Barnes tells her to drop the gun in 3 seconds or else he’ll shoot the man. Barnes decides to shoot the windows at the top of the courthouse to make it rain glass on the people and makes his escape.
Luli gets out of the car at a house and meets with a woman named Cindy Right, Cindy mentions that she can show Luli the house; but Luli buys it double the original price in cash. Ressler and Meera talk about the investigation of Barnes with Liz, it turns out that Burns wants to kill different types of people; Meera believes that it could be due to Burns wanting to conduct an experiment with killing these people. Harold talks to Liz about why she surrendered her firearm in front of a criminal, Harold wants Liz to go through an administrative panel due to her actions. Liz does not look pleased at all, Liz asks Ressler about that chat with Harold. Turns out Ressler told Harold about the situation because Liz let Burns get away, she saved the life of one man and risked the lives of tons. The doctor is testing the woman who was saved from the courthouse, the girl wonders if she’ll get infected with the disease also, but the doctor plays it cool and tells her she will be fine. Barnes is seen in the hospital and this time he’s changing the woman who survived’s IV bag, he might have given her morphine of some sort, because she ends up getting light headed and sleeping. Then Burns starts getting ready to kill more people.
Red calls Liz and asks about the current situation with Barnes, Liz brings up that she let Barnes get away and asks Red to help her. Red then mentions if Barnes went back for the young woman who survived the court room because he’s a killer and he wouldn’t want no suspects. Liz makes it to the hospital and finds out that she was too late, turns out that Barnes wanted to get the woman’s bone marrow due to her apparent immunity from the disease in order to give it to his son Ethan. Liz calls Ms. Forester and asks where her son Ethan is at, Liz tells her to get out of her house because Barnes is coming for her. Barnes arrives at Forester’s house, he mentions that he did what he did for his son. Ms. Forester tells Barnes to leave Ethan alone, Barnes talks to Ethan and tells him to not do anything stupid that he’s here to help him out. Ethan runs to his room and hides under his bed, Barnes enters and starts trying to take out the cure. Liz arrives at the house, Burns is trying to grab Ethan; he ends up giving him chloroform to the face using a rag. Liz enters the house and searches for Barnes along with Meera, Meera helps out Ms. Forester while Liz heads up stairs. Liz makes it up stairs, she tries to persuade Barnes in not giving the cure to Ethan. Burns goes to inject him in the neck to cure him, but Liz ends up shooting Burns instantly.
The ambulance arrives and they’re getting those who were injured in the home to the hospital, Red arrives at the scene of the crime and talks to Liz; it turns out that Barnes ended up dying after getting shot. Red says that he understood what Barnes did, because he wanted to burn the world in order to protect one person he cared about. Liz then mentions that she needs Red to do his job, that she respects how he gets work done; but she doesn’t want Red to have anything to do with her personal life. Red retorts with saying that he will get in the car and disappear if she wants him too, Liz stands there speechless. Red walks away and says that he’ll see her tomorrow, he gets in the car with Dembe and drives off.
It cuts to Liz speaking with Ressler in their workplace, she mentions that Barnes had to be stopped. Tom is sitting alone eating Asian cuisine on the floor, Liz arrives and sits next to him. Liz asks if Tom really got rid of all that stuff, Tom then brings up their first night in their home. Then Liz and Tom kiss, Tom removes his glasses to make it easier and that’s when things start getting serious; along with the lamp being hit to the ground.
Dembe drives Red and Luli to the house that Red recently just bought, the three of them walk up to the house and enter it. Red enters and looks upstairs and mentions how it’s strange because he remembers the house being bigger. Luli doesn’t understand why Red chose to buy this house, he replies that it was where he raised his family. Red goes outside and removes a panel from the wall where their’s a height measurement, he then has a flashback of a little girl playing outside with bubbles. Red gazes outside with a blank stare for a while, Dembe appears from behind him and tells him it’s time to go. Red asks if Dembe prepared everything the way he asked, Dembe gives a small nod. Red, Luli and Dembe leave the house and get back into the car. The house ends up being blown up, this is the final step in him forgetting those memories he once had there.
