Taylor Swift and Katy Perry are all set to have a major showdown at the MTV EMA Awards, as they vie to win the award for Best Female. In other words, their feud is about to come to a head after weeks of passive aggressive media baiting.
The whole started when Taylor gave an interview Rolling Stone revealing that her song Bad Blood was about a ‘mystery’ female singer who remained her #1 enemy in the music industry. She explained that for several years, she never knew if she and this singer were friends or not. Then, this singer totally blew any chances of being invited to Taylor’s sleepovers by dicking her over in an unforgivable way.
As Taylor explains, “She did something so horrible, I was like, ‘We’re just straight-up enemies’. It wasn’t even about a guy! She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour – she tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.”
Many people already guessed that the mystery singer that Taylor was referring to was Katy Perry, since they both had tours that began at the same time and Taylor’s description seemed to fit their history together. Of course, Katy’s not one to keep silent when her reputation is being attacked, so she tweeted, “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…”
Ouch. Also – BURN. Not only did Katy make a stellar Mean Girls reference there, but she totally confirmed that Taylor was referring to her, and also called her out for it. Then, the proverbial nail in the coffin came when several dancers actually confirmed what Katy did, which was hire them away from Taylor’s Red tour mid-way through to come work on her own Prism tour. Damn, Katy. You should have known you would be the target of Taylor’s revenge song-writing skills. But knowing Katy Perry, she probably didn’t give a damn.
However, what she does give a damn about is her career. In that regard, these MTV EMAs should be very interesting. In addition to Taylor and Katy competing for Best Female, the other competitors in this category are the Ariana Grande, Beyonce, and Nicki Minaj. Basically, Beyonce is going to win, but Taylor and Katy will undoubtedly provide us with many GIF-worthy moments. Neither one of them is very good at controlling their hatred for other people [remembering Taylor’s tongue sticking out after seeing Justin Bieber make out with Selena Gomez all those years ago], and I doubt they’ll be able to hold their cool for several hours of cameras sticking in their faces.
