Fans of “The Vampire Diaries” have a short hiatus before season 6 returns on March 12. With “Downward Spiral,” the next episode, fans will be able to learn more about Caroline’s meltdown following her mother’s death. We are also hopeful that “Downward Spiral” will give us a little more of that long-awaited relationship between Stefan and Caroline.
In the meantime, though, what can we do to keep ourselves busy while we wait for March 12? Check out these ideas as you mark the days on the calendar.
Read the Books
In case you haven’t read the original book series “The Vampire Diaries” by author L.J. Smith, take this time to do just that. You will notice some differences between the books and the television series, but that’s a given — this happens anytime a book is translated onto the screen. Regardless, reading the book series will give you a richer understanding of the characters and the series, so go for it! You’ve got time before “Downward Spiral” airs.
Read the Comic Series
If you’re not keen on reading the original book series or don’t care to read them again, you might be interested in reading the comic series. Yep, DC Comics created a comic series that was based on the television episodes. Track them down and enjoy!
Watch the Last Few Episodes Again
Before season 6 returns, take some time to watch the last few episodes all over again. Check out episodes on Hulu or Amazon Instant.
If you want to go a little more hardcore, take the time to do some binge watching of the first five seasons again. Go on — you know it’s been awhile since you first started out on this adventure with Elena, Stefan, Damon and all the rest. Relive everything that has happened to bring us up to “Downward Spiral.” Refresh your memory about everything that’s happened and you will be ready for the series return on March 12.
Watch “The Originals”
Learn more about the Original vampires by watching the spinoff series, “The Originals.” Maybe you just haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, or maybe you weren’t sure you wanted to. You’ve got a little time before “The Vampire Diaries” returns, and don’t worry — the CW renewed the series for a third season so you’ve got plenty of episodes to enjoy.
