Singer Sam Smith has become known as one of musics top selling artists, and after recently winning four Grammy awards, the singer was on top of the world. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old singer has been facing a vocal cord ailment for quite sometime now, and after canceling a few shows, he has decided to cancel the rest of his Australian tour.
Smith’s doctors discovered a small hemorrhage on his vocal cords and are concerned with his health and recovery. They have advised him to get surgery and then rest, hoping that things can get better.
Smith released the following statement on Instagram; “Dear all: I am very upset to announce that I have been battling to get my vocal cords better the last 10 days but unfortunately they haven’t recovered and I am going to need surgery. I’m so gutted to be missing all the shows and events I was meant to be playing at. The doctors say I will be back in 6-8 weeks and I cannot wait to sing for you all soon.”
Smith adds, “Bad news. I have my operation looked for next week, so getting really nervous. But by doing this in 8 weeks time I’m gonna be able to sing like never before so it’s worth it. I am so sorry to all. Dreading the next month though, I can’t speak for three weeks after the operation.”
As af now, Smith’s website shows that he will not be performing at the rest of his shows in Australia, Japan, the Philippines, France, or Monaco, through the month of June. The website reveals that Smith is still scheduled to perform in the U.K., France, Switzerland, Portugal, Ireland, Germany, and the United States in July and August, after his surgery and rest is complete.
Vocal cords can be very delicate and it is important to take care of them. If not treated properly and in a timely manner it can cost a singer their ability sing completely. It is better that Sam Smith take care of this now, rather than chance it, and potentially lose his career.
