There have been some major updates involving the care of Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston. Pat Houston, Whitney Houston’s sister-in-the-law, and Bobby Brown were recently appointed Bobbi Kristina’s legal co-guardians. In a combined statement from their attorneys, Bobby Brown and Pat Houston said they are now “jointly responsible for decisions related to Krissi’s care and medical needs.”
Bobby Brown also filed a petition to be put in charge of Bobbi Kristina Brown’s personal finances, but that request was denied. Instead, the court appointed a third party to control Bobbi Kristina’s financial matters. Attorney Bedelia Hargrove has been named a conservator in this case. Hargrove will handle Bobbi Kristina’s “assets, including her likeness, rights and legal claims.”
Bobby and Pat had their lawyers say they were “delighted” with the court’s decision, but it’s tough to believe that there isn’t intense drama going on behind the scenes. Bobbi Kristina was found unresponsive in her bathtub on January 31 and there have been reports of feuding between the Browns and the Houstons ever since. Bobby Brown made it clear that he wanted to keep his daughter alive by any means necessary when Bobbi Kristina Brown was moved to a rehab facility in March. Since then, Bobby has said Bobbi Kristina was awake and her “doctors have indicated she would live a long life.” However, the Houstons don’t seem to agree that it’s a positive prognosis. According to ABC News, Cissy Houston stated that her granddaughter has “irreversible brain damage” and Bobbi Kristina could “live in this condition for a lifetime.”
It sounds like the same old battle for the Houston and Brown families. There’s a good chance tensions will rise now that Bobby Brown and Pat Houston will have to make medical decisions together. That may not be a good thing for Bobbi Kristina considering how vocal the Houstons have been about their willingness to let Bobbi Kristina Brown die. At least Bobbi Kristina’s assets will be taken care of by a neutral conservator and protected from the people who wanted her removed from life support. Bobbi Kristina’s $20 million inheritance is set to go to the Houstons in the event of her death. It’s probably better to keep both the Houstons and the Browns out of Bobbi Kristina’s personal finances for the time being. We’ll let you know if any further details emerge about Bobbi Kristina Brown’s status.
