#AmericanOdyssey begins with sirens and noise in Bamako at Club Cachette as Diallo and his men show up. He tells them to live Shakir alone and runs to her. He cries when he sees how badly she was abused. He asks why and then says – forgive me. Looks like she’s dead. He sets a gentle kiss on her lips while his men look disturbed. He puts on his hat and tells his men Osela did this and he wants checkpoints on every road.
Peter is in his office and plugs in the flash drive. He looks at some info on Project Socrates, SOC, Black Sands and Qasim. He sees info on his affair including photos. Then info on May, Josh and Sarah including his son’s route to school. He hears Maya sobbing and yanks out the flash drive. He asks what happened but Maya stomps off. She says Cameron broke up with her. He tells Sarah to come outside with him to talk.
She follows and he says the house may be bugged. He says it’s SOC and he has information on them but can’t call the police. He says Project Socrates was assigned to him because they think he has influence with Sophia. He says the affair was over but they expect them to cooperate or else they’ll hurt them all. He says he found information there about the kids. Sarah asks if they’ll hurt the kids and he says they’re capable of anything so he wants her to take the kids away.
She asks what he’s done and he promises to get their life back. Sarah asks if Maya is right and asks if he hurt Cameron. He says that boy works for SOC and was hired to spy on them. Sarah freaks and says she’s going to go pack. She goes back in the house. Odelle asks Aslam how long it will take them to get to Algeria as they pack to leave. Luc comes in and Odelle asks him to come with them to help but he says no. Aslam says they don’t need him. Luc rattles off the list of things that could happen.
He says she deserves and she calls him an ass and says if he stays there, Osela will come after him. He says with her gone, they won’t care but she says he’s stupid. She and Aslam leave and he watches them go. Bob comes home and finds Ruby there giving his mom a foot massage. He says to get her hands off his mother. He says she’s not a friend then asks why she’s there. She says she came looking for Harrison then heard his mom calling so she came inside.
Bob tells Ruby they had an agreement and says she promised to stay away if he kept his word. He says he’s been minding his own business like she told him to. She says to keep up the good work. He says he will keep it up then asks her to go. She does. He tells his mom to never let Ruby in the apartment again but she says she’s lovely. He says to please do as he asks then slams into his room. Ruby gets a call about Harrison but she says he’s under control.
They ask if she knows Harrison was picked up by Homeland Security. She’s told that Harrison has gotten too close. She’s not happy but they tell her to take care of it and they’ll send a cleaner when she’s done. She ends the call and sighs. At the Deckers’, Sarah and the kids pack the car to leave. Josh asks why they have to go and his mom says because she said so. Peter sends them off. Maya isn’t talking to him but he says he loves her. All she will say is bye.
He asks Sarah to call him tonight and she turns away from his kiss. They leave. Bob’s mom calls him to come out there and she says she wants to talk to him. He sits and Rose says when he was 12 she remembers him fiddling with a computer guts and he asks if she ever had any dreams when she was his age. He says he doesn’t remember it. She says she used to watch the sun go down and imagine traveling to different countries and meeting people.
She says that was her dream – to see the world – every square inch of it. She says she never did. She says she went from her father’s house to this house. Bob asks if she regrets it but she says she did, but not anymore. She says those places would have been exciting but wouldn’t have topped the love she had with his dad and the joy he’s brought her. She says Bob was her dream and she didn’t even know it. She says he needs to get away from the damned computer and find someone to love no matter what.
He says maybe there’s someone down the street for him too. She says she knows that it might be a “he” for him and implies it’s Harrison he likes. Bob leaves the room quickly. Harrison is in a bar getting drunk. A guy shows up and says someone outside would like a word with him. He asks who it is and asks if it’s Tenant. The guy says come outside and find out. The guy pays his bar bill and Harrison goes outside. The guy opens a car door and Harrison crawls into the car.
It’s Senator Darnell. He tells Harrison he knew his father and says he was a good and talented man. Harrison agrees and says he was working on Black Sands and says Darnell couldn’t have liked his dad digging in his garbage. Darnell says he knows he spoke to Qasim and needs to know what he said to him. Harrison says Qasim told him that Darnell was the one who tried to kill him and Darnell says Qasim is a murdering terrorist. Harrison says he’ll finish his dad’s work and bring him down in flames.
Darnell laughs and calls him naïve then kicks him out of the car. Peter comes to see Baker who says he knows Peter has info he shouldn’t have. He says he’s glad Peter called him so they can clear the air. He says he got the info in a very inappropriate way and it would be bad if that came to light. Peter agrees but says it would be more unfortunate for SOC than him since it shows they funded terrorism. Peter says he knows about Socrates and the threat to his family and wants it done.
Baker says to drop the investigation and says he won’t touch his family. Peter says he also wants $40 million and Baker laughs long and hard. He asks what he gets for that and Peter says he’ll get Sophia Tsaldari. He says she’s still planning on using Qasim’s testimony. Baker says Qasim is dead then says if he can make her play ball, it works for him. They drink to it and Peter swigs some scotch. Baker says business meets pleasure.
Bob is digging into Ruby Simms and finds photos of her – a woman with that name but a different face. Bob says Ruby isn’t who she said and says he’s doing this for Harrison. He says she’s a succubus and has to warn Harrison. He goes running out to warn his buddy. Odelle and Aslam are on the road to Algeria. They listen to the radio as they drive through the desert. They chat about the woman singing on the radio and Aslam says his dad thought the artist is too Western.
She changes the radio when it fuzzes out and they hear news about Shakir being brutally beaten. They stop and back up to try and hear the news. It says Shakir died on the scene. Odelle asks why Diallo wasn’t protecting her. She gets out of the car in anguish and stares out at the landscape. She tells Aslam she won’t let them get away with this. He won’t look at her. He asks if they can just go. She gets back in the car. They head off. Majors and his men roll up and see a roadblock.
They are stopped and Majors asks what it’s about. They demand their passports and they hand them over. They are told to wait. They look the documents over and Majors tells his men to go easy when they pull guns. The man comes back without their papers and says to step out of their car. Majors says they work with the US military but the soldiers pull guns and Majors has to tell his men to stand down. They are taken away from their vehicle and off to the side of the road.
Diallo shows up with his men. Majors and the others are lying on the ground. Diallo says Osela are murderers for hire. Majors says they are sanctioned by the US government. Diallo asks if he enjoyed beating an innocent man and Majors asks if that was a man. Diallo gives an order and his men scoop them up even though Majors threatened an international incident. Harrison staggers drunk by the water front while Ruby stalks him with her gun in hand.
Harrison trips and falls down. Ruby walks up on him. She tucks her gun away and wipes her tears. She kneels down and speaks to him. He asks how she found him and if he calls her. She says he did and says he’s way over the limit. She helps him up. He leans on her and she walks him home. Suzanne and Ron are out to eat with the grief group pal but Suzanne is annoyed. She leaves them to go to the bookstore.
Ruby takes Harrison home and he flops onto the couch then thanks her and says she’s the best. She hears his cell phone ding and picks it up. It’s a text from Khulus. She says he wants to meet with him tomorrow. Harrison says – sweet – and she smiles. She asks if she can tag along but he says no and they can’t crowd him. He nods off and she goes to call her boss Banks. She says Harrison has a lead on Yusuf. She says it’s a cleaner way and says to let her do Yusuf but he says then Harrison too.
Banks tells her to never try and play him. In the desert, Diallo and his men stop and pulls the Osela crew out. Diallo asks for a gun and tells Majors to walk. He walks him out into the desert then says to stop. Majors says he knows Shakir died slowly and in pain but he will be humane and give him a quick death. He puts the gun to Majors head and fires but it’s empty. He looks back at his man who gave him the gun. They get back into the SUV and leave Diallo there with Majors.
Majors hits him with a staggering blow then walks away into the desert. Suzanne is in the bookstore when a woman wanders over to chat. They talk books and Suzanne says her mom is a soldier overseas. The woman talks to her about Lord of the Rings and how Tolkien and his son were both soldiers. Bob sees a woman talking to Suzanne from across the street. Suzanne says she makes videos for her mom. She says the Army told her that her mom is dead. The woman says she’s sorry.
Suzanne says it’s okay because she knows her mom isn’t dead. The woman insists she buy Suzanne the book and Bob sees them at the register. He leaves the table and rushes to the book store. Suzanne asks her name and she says it’s Julia and says she comes to the book store all the time if she wants to talk. Ron runs over and Julia introduces herself and says his daughter is very bright. She tells her to enjoy the book and leaves. Ron asks if she bought her that. She says Julia like LOTR like Mom. Ron is disturbed by the incident.
Aslam and Odelle drive on and Odelle asks if he wants to talk about it and says it might help. The car sputters to a stop even though they have a full tank of gas. They open the hood and see the engine is smoking. Odelle says they need a mechanic and he says there are none in the middle of the desert. He says they need to walk but Odelle says they should stay the night and leave in the morning since it will be safer. He says this is about survival and she needs to listen to him.
He says he won’t fall to the ground and cry. He says just because she knows his language doesn’t mean she knows his life. Odelle hugs him and comforts him then agrees to do as he wants and leave to walk now. She says let’s go. They grab their stuff and leave the car on the side of the dusty road. Majors staggers up to Luc’s place. Luc watches the news where there’s a story on about the search for Odelle then hears a noise. He grabs a gun and goes to check.
He finds Majors in his shed and holds a gun on him. Majors wrestles with Luc for the gun and they brawl. Majors goes for the gun and almost has it. He bites Luc who beats him. They grapple furiously then he asks if Majors came for him or her. He asks how Majors found him but he’s out. Luc cocks the gun and points it at him. Then he walks off and leaves Majors lying on the floor of the shed. Bob tries to call Harrison and leaves a desperate voice mail then tracks his cell phone.
Peter listens to a news story about Qasim saying he’s been hiding in New York but he got away from Homeland. He gets a text from Sophia saying she’s heading back to NYC and asking if she can count on him. Peter calls Sarah and tells her everything will be okay soon. He says to trust him but she’s not too enthusiastic. Harrison sleeps when Ruby creeps close the next morning. Bob is outside tracking the phone. Someone leaves the building and Bob is able to get inside. He heads up and knocks on the door.
He says he needs to talk to Harrison but Ruby says he’s sleeping. Bob tells her he knows who she is and knows she’s lying. He says he knows who she is and he calls her Rikki. She calls him crazy Bob and says she’ll tell Harrison he stopped by then she shuts the door on him and almost hacks his fingers off. Suzanne calls and leaves another voice mail for Odelle. She says she met a nice lady at the book store who bought her Lord of the Rings.
The phone cliks. Julia is the woman listening in on the voice mails. Two cars pull up behind Odelle and Aslam. They watch the vehicles coming and Aslam tells her to keep her head down. She does as he says. The cars drive by – it’s their car and a truck following and there are armed men in both vehicles including men with rocket launchers. They back up towards them.
