Kurt Sutter may be in the beginning stages of producing a prequel to “Sons of Anarchy”. That’s right fans, you may not have seen the last of SAMCRO! There are not many details right now, but the 9.2 million fans who watched the series finale in December 2014 may be excited to hear that Kurt has not put the Mayans and SAMCRO to bed forever.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Kurt Sutter will be the executive producer for the not-yet-titled show which will air on FX. Rumors are that the storyline of the new show will revolve around the shared history behind the Mayans, a Hispanic motorcycle club out of Oakland, California, and Northern California-based SAMCRO. In the seven year run of “Sons of Anarchy” the Mayans and SAMCRO were sometimes enemies, sometimes allies. Though SAMCRO may play an important part of the FX drama, reportedly it will focus mainly on the Mayans Motorcycle Club.
At Comic-Con in July Sutter hinted that he had plans in the works for a possible prequel or limited series based on “SoA.” FX is searching for a show runner because Kurt Sutter is busy with upcoming “The Bastard Executioner,” which will premiere on FX Tuesday, Sept. 15 in the 10 p.m. time slot that was occupied by “Sons of Anarchy” for seven years.
Fans will need to sit tight and wait to see if any characters from “SoA” will be included on the new show. If the prequel – or limited series – revolves around the history of the Mayans and SAMCRO then it is possible some members of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Originals would be back, but obviously with younger actors portraying Gemma Teller (Katy Sagal), Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman), Bobbie Munson (Mark Boon Junior), Wayne Unser (Dayton Callie), Jimmy O’Phelan (Titus Welliver), and Tommy Flanagan (Chibs Telford). It is possible that the character of John Teller, Jax Teller’s (Charlie Hunnam) father and Gemma’s first husband, could be a fully vetted character in the new show.
