Joey Feek is dead! Joey lost her cancer battle and husband Rory Feek paid a last heartrending tribute in video. This Friday, March 4 will be indelibly etched in the memory of the family, friends and fans of Joey Feek. This marked the day the country singer – who bravely shared the highs and lows of her devastating illness with the world – took her last breath.
In a poignant tribute on his blog, This Life I Live: scenes from one man’s extraordinary, ordinary life, Rory Feek announced to the world that his wife took her last breath at 2:30pm.
The March 4 post titled “A Dream Come True” would initially cause some confusion, but Joey’s passing meant to him the knowledge that his wife was finally released from her long and debilitating experience. Rory by no means denied that the last few months had been filled with constant heartbreak and sorrow. Nonetheless, he rejoices in knowing that she was now free and his videos always reaffirm that stance.
Opening up to the world one last time, Rory Feek reflected on one of the last videos of Joey as she lay back expecting to see her favourite movie Hope Floats. Instead, she was met with Dolly Parton, the one person in the world she truly wanted to meet, paying tribute to her in a short video.
While the video of Dolly played, the camera panned to Joey Feek and her shock was unmistakable. Dolly Parton encouraged her to keep praying and thank Joey for being such a tremendous fan. This was really a dream come true for Joey, and her husband was there, sharing in tears and smiles as an overwhelmed Joey weakly expressed her complete appreciation.
The video again provided followers with the hope that Joey was not simply resigned to dying, but that she was positive and exuded an air of accomplishment all throughout.
Based on the dire nature of Rory Feek’s last blog post on February 29, fans and well wishers of course had a strong understanding of the dismal prospects the family was facing watching their beloved Joey fade away. Despite this, the announcement of the soulful singer’s passing today was shocking and devastating for many.
People Magazine reported in November 2015 that since Joey Feek revealed she was diagnosed with stave IV cervical cancer in June 2015, the family faced their hardest battle. Their struggle was just as devastating as when her brother Justin Martin died in 1994, even though she was able to battle cervical cancer for months.
Particularly since the illness had been so aggressive as by November of that year Joey had to be moved into a hospice.
Throughout it all, the love shared by these two could hardly be more obvious than seen in that video Rory also shared. They exchanged heartfelt kisses, unconcerned about the tears as they fell. Having reached such a point in their relationship where it was down to bare, raw bone emotion.
This only comes from knowing you have seen your loved one through the absolute worst and still stood by them. One would dare to say these two were indeed soul mates.
Indeed Joey Feek is free, finally free.
As Rory said – “The cancer is gone, the pain has ceased and all her tears are dry. Joey is in the arms of her beloved brother Justin Martin and using her pretty voice to sing for her savior”.
