When Stella Kidd’s (Miranda Rae Mayo) ex, Grant (Guy Burnet) attacks Stella, behind Molly’s; Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) comes to her rescue and hits Grant with a pipe, cutting his throat.  Stella chooses to go in the ambulance with Grant, but police hold Severide back from going so they can get his statement.

Severide tells police it was a clean take down with no excessive force.  At Chicago Med, Stella is questioned on whether Grant ever did something like this before.  Stella says Grant has never hurt her nor has he ever laid a finger on her before, but tonight she did feel threatened.

She admits that Severide came out to rescue her and because Grant had a knife, Severide grabbed a piece of metal from the garbage to disarm him.  CPD’s officer Crawford, acknowledges that Stella is relieved that Grant is alive and the surgery is going well.  He admits that Severide and her stories match, so when Grant wakes up and heals, they have enough to charge him with attempted murder.

Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Gabi Dawson (Monica Raymund) discuss hiring a babysitter for Louie, but so far Gabi doesn’t like any of the women they have interviewed.  Casey tells her that Stella is coming into work today, and Gabi says she will be fine.  Louie comes in and asks Casey to read to him, and they read as a family.

Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) and Capp (Randy Flagler) are asking Severide about what happened.  Severide doesn’t discuss it.  Stella arrives at work and avoids Severide.  Casey meets with Stella and informs her that Jimmy Borrelli (Steve R. McQueen) is back on truck, as per Captain’s orders.  Casey says that everyone needs to be 100% because emotions will be running very high with Jimmy around.

When Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) comes to ask the firefighters to not discuss the “Grant” situation around Stella, Jimmy gets up and ignores Boden.  Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) tells Jimmy that the Chief is talking; Jimmy disregards him completely, only to say hi to Lt. Casey.  When Herrmann pipes up about his attitude, the Chief defends him by saying Jimmy is still grieving his brother, and to not lose sight of that.  Casey promises to keep an eye on him.

Socialite and party animal, Travis Brenner (Scott Elrod) visits the fire station and drops off some alcohol in appreciation for them saving Character last week.  Travis invites Severide to an event he is hosting tomorrow, Severide declines.  Connie (Dushon Monique Brown) informs Severide that Officer Crawford is on the phone for him.

Brian “Otis” Zvonecek tells Herrmann who Travis Brenner is, and Herrmann tells him to convince him to come to Molly’s, to make the bar famous.  Meanwhile, Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Randall “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte) meet, where she presents him chapter one of their new book.  Mouch is not impressed with her writing and Brett tells him she won’t work with him.

Severide meets with Stella, and is upset that she declined to press charges on Grant.  She explains that it’s not that simple for her; and that it isn’t Severide’s problem.  He said it is his problem because he had to get between her and his knife.  She says she knows Grant the best and will handle it.  Severide tells her flat out that maybe that is what caused this in the first place, her keeping Grant around for years after she should have cut him off.  The alarm goes off and Stella brushes him off coldly.

The scene is on a boat where a man has his leg wrangled up inside ropes.  Cruz starts moving the ropes and now Severide’s glove is caught inside.  Cruz tells Severide they need to take it apart and Severide orders him to do it, saying they have no time to disassemble it.  Severide’s hand is injured.

Mouch continues to read more of what Brett wrote and is actually impressed with her work.  Cruz tells Gabi that she needs to check on Severide, she says its nothing more than a nasty blood blister.  When Gabi asks if he is okay, he asks her if she knew that Stella wasn’t pressing charges on Grant and she is letting him walk.

Gabi confronts Stella, and says for her to at least get a restraining order.  Stella tells her she is sick and tired of people telling her what to do.  Connie brings Louie to Gabi where she informs her that his babysitter forgot that she had a doctor’s appointment today.  Alderman comes to see Casey at the fire station, where he tells him that he knows Casey used his political influence to help Gabi jump the line in the foster-care system.

Alderman says that if the press gets a hold of this, it will destroy his career, and he now expects Casey to vote for him.  Casey goes to see Gabi, and sees Louis, but Gabi explains Connie’s sister is a nanny and looking for work.  Before they can discuss what is going on in the political field, they get another call.

Gabi and Brett arrive on scene, to blood on the floor and Brett asks if they should call for back-up.  They find a famous author with her face ripped open from her dog, Bella biting her in the face, when she scared her.  Brett is impressed with her penthouse, and tells Mouch she wants back in with the writing, Mouch agrees.

Severide walks with Stella after shift from the firehouse.  He asks her how she is doing, she tells him she dealt with Grant, but Severide was right when he said they were not a couple; so it’s not his to deal with.  Stella meets with Grant and Chicago Med’s Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt).  Grant is informed that Stella is not going to put him in jail, but they are informing him that he needs to voluntary admit himself to Springfield Facility.

Stella pleas him to get help, and that he was the one who saved her life as a teen.  She then admits that the only reason she didn’t press charges is because she is done with him.  She is done making decisions for him, and she is out for good.  She tells him it’s time for him to step up; as soon as he signs the papers, she walks out of the room.

Casey meets with the Alderman and tells him he did his part, and they are done, telling him he can no longer hang the DCFS over him.  Casey acts like he doesn’t care about his political career, but Gary, the alderman, says Casey definitely cares that Gabi keeps her foster-kid.  He then informs Casey he will be calling him later in the week to discuss their next meeting.

Severide shows up at Travis Brenner’s event, and he informs the bouncer that he is to always let Kelly Severide into his events.  Gabi is making dinner when Casey comes home from the political meeting, and she is telling him all about Connie’s sister, Bonnie is a great nanny.  Casey is upset and informs Gabi how Gary is implying they cut corners in the foster-care system.  Gabi says they didn’t do anything illegal, but Casey says Gary may make it look like he used his influence to make it happen.

Gabi asks if that could change their foster-care status and he admits that he doesn’t know.  Gabi says that cannot happen.  Casey says he will deal with Gary, to figure it all out.  Gabi tells him to do whatever it takes because she is not going to lose Louie.

Jimmy is sitting in Molly’s drinking with a woman, and is talking about his brother Danny, and how Danny was a stand-up guy, unlike Chief Boden.  Herrmann tells him that Danny didn’t make a good first impression, and Jimmy bites back saying that didn’t make his life any less important.  Jimmy continues to bash Boden telling her that Boden sent his brother to his death.  Herrmann can’t stand by any more.  He tells Jimmy if he is going to trash talk his chief it will not happen in his bar.

Otis tries to calm Herrmann down, who tells Otis, he is sick and tired of tip-toeing around this punk!  Herrmann said it was time for tough love.  He tells Jimmy that his brother screwed up, and that is the truth and he needs to stop looking for someone else to blame.  Jimmy stands up and tells him not to talk about his brother.  Mouch touches Jimmy’s shoulder and tells him to be careful.  Jimmy tells all of them that he will see them around the firehouse.

Everyone from Truck 81 is in Boden’s office when he arrives in the morning.  Herrmann tells him they all refuse to work with Jimmy.  Mouch tells Boden that now he can tell the Deputy Commissioner that either they pull Jimmy, or they need to find a whole new crew for truck 81.  Boden informs them they could get into real trouble over this one; Herrmann says if CFD won’t look after Jimmy’s best interests, they will.

Casey said he is willing to keep Jimmy in the background as long as Boden wants him to, but this may be the only way to get Jimmy the help he deserves.  Boden says he will call the Chief Commissioner, but if the bell goes off they will all be there, and they are dismissed.

The crew is called out to a multi-vehicle accident.  The driver who caused the accident took off, and the man on the motorcycle, is able to limp to the gurney.  They have a trapped woman inside the car, but the truck is filled with cans of fuel on the back.  Boden orders everyone to back up 50 feet.  They need to drag the car and Jimmy is to back up Otis, he disobeys and Casey takes his place.

Jimmy approaches the vehicle asking people to help him.  Boden tries to stop him and there is an explosion.  Jimmy is on fire, and everyone tries to save him.  Severide asks Boden if he is okay and Boden orders him to get the victim out of the car.  Brett and Gabi try desperately to save Jimmy, whose whole left side of his face and neck are severely burned.  Boden also has a minor burn on his neck.

At Chicago Med Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) informs the crew that Jimmy’s burns were to limited to his face and neck.  The burns were so severe, they were unable to save his left eye.  He will recover but it will be long and difficult for Jimmy.  Severide tells Chief Boden that it is not his fault, Boden says, “the hell it isn’t!”

Deputy Commissioner arrives at the hospital and Casey gives him the update.  He says to Boden, “hell of a thing!”  Boden asks the doctor if he can see Jimmy; he says he can.  Matt’s phone goes off and it’s the alderman, he chooses to ignore it.  Severide wants to comfort Stella, but she ignores him and he decides to leave rather than toast Jimmy at Molly’s.  Chief Boden prays for Jimmy, and as he is about to leave, Jimmy raises his hand to Boden, who comes back to comfort him.

THE END!
