Gwen Stefani is not having a very good start to the New Year. New reports indicate that the chart topper has been hit with a new lawsuit. Gwen Stefani is being sued for allegedly ripping off the lyrics for her 2014 song ‘Spark the Fire.’ Gwen collaborated with singer and songwriter Pharrell Williams on the track.
Hairstylist and musician Richard Morill claims that he played his song ‘Who’s Got My Lighter?’ for Gwen while he was coloring her hair back in 2009. He says that Gwen instantly liked the track and that’s why he gave her a CD with the song on it. That’s why he was shocked to hear Gwen’s ‘Spark the Fire’ and recognized similarities between the two songs almost instantly.
Richard claims that Gwen ripped him off by stealing the rhythm, melody and background music from ‘Who’s Got My Lighter.’ The lyrics in Gwen’s song are “Let’s spark the fire. Who got the lighter?” The lyrics in Richard Morrill’s track say “Who’s got my lighter? Who got the fire?”
Richard Morill’s suing her for the $25 million he believes Gwen and Pharrell made from ‘Spark the Fire.’ Of course, this isn’t the first time Pharrell Williams has been hit with a plagiarism lawsuit. That’s why many industry insiders believe Gwen might have a hard time defending herself in this case.
Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke were sued for copyright infringement for their 2013 hit song, ‘Blurred Lines’ by Marvin Gaye’s family. They alleged that the song was a rip off of Marvin’s 1977 hit, ‘Got To Give It Up.’ Back n March 2015 the court sided with Marvin Gaye’s children and ordered Pharrell and Robin to pay them $7.4 Million for the copyright breach.
Does this mean Gwen Stefani is going to be spending the next several months gearing up for her court case? With two plagiarism lawsuits against him, could this be the end of Pharrell Williams’ career in the music industry? That’s what fans want to know.
So far Gwen has not made any comments about the lawsuit. Of course, fans know that the truth will come out sooner rather than later. Do you agree?
