General Hospital spoilers examine the prospects of Susan Lucci and Michael E. Knight coming to GH based on recent interviews in SOD. Now that the Prospect Park suit has been dismissed, anything goes as far as ABC’s soap characters moving to their only current live soap, General Hospital.
There has been talk of Netflix adding one of the defunct soaps to their site, but until something concrete happens, many characters from ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ are waiting in the wings. Of course this talk hasn’t been by Netflix, rather more Internet chatter without any substance.
We already know that Hillary B. Smith [Nora] is coming to GH on March 6, 2017. There has been speculation that Vincent Irizarry might reprise his role as David Hayward on the soap and pair up again with Anna [Finola Hughes]. More recently, since Irizarry’s Deimos character is going to be killed off of Day of Our Lives, CDL has suggested that this excellent villain might in fact be the real Valentin Cassadine.
Frank Valentini, the Executive Producer of GH, has said that it is an “exciting” idea and could be “fun” to move some of these characters from OLTL and AMC to Port Charles. One actor who would be happy to do the show is Michael E. Knight [Tad Martin] of ‘AMC ‘ fame. We can always use another investigator in Port Charles, with Spinelli [Bradford Anderson] gone and Sam [Kelly Monaco] busy with two children.
Three-time Emmy winner Knight spent 19 years on AMC, debuting September 3, 1973 until the finale in 2011, with breaks in between. He was also part of the online revival of the series in 2013. From 2015-2016, he played Dr. Simon Neville on ‘The Young and the Restless.’ He has also appeared on primetime television and the stage. Knight may like the idea of a steady gig again. Tad could be a plus, possibly taking over Sam’s investigation business.
How about Erica Kane? Would Susan Lucci ever consider returning to daytime TV? Lucci these days is a little more choosy about what she does, understandably. Erica is an iconic character and would have to be handled a certain way in order for her to agree according to SOD.
The Emmy-winning actress definitely had some fun as Erica on ‘Hot in Cleveland’ as ex-soap queen Victoria Chase’s [Wendie Malick] arch rival in the soap world. But what would she do on GH? General Hospital can always use strong women, and with the coming retirement of Jane Elliot [Tracy], there might be a niche for a glamorous, wealthy woman to shake up Port Charles.
Erica’s beauty and money are bound to grab attention, and she would be a great rival for Nina [Michelle Stafford]. Suppose Erica wanted to take over Crimson? It would be a great storyline, and Crimson could use her panache.
There has been speculation before about how characters from other soaps could work into GH. It remains to be seen how many will actually make the trip to Port Charles. What do you think?
