It looks like Prince George is already taking after his father Prince William when it comes to the things he likes and doesn’t like. William himself said that his 4-year-old son is no fan of contact sports. He made the revelation while hosting a reception for England’s women’s soccer team at Kensington Palace this week.
During the reception, William told the women’s soccer team, known as the Lionesses, that young Prince George doesn’t like to get physical when playing sports. Even though he likes to kick the ball, he doesn’t like it when anyone gets too close to him on the field.
According to Hello Magazine, player Casey Stoney said, “[William] said at the moment he’s trying to teach George that football is actually a contact sport. But George doesn’t really like it when he’s palming him off and getting physical. He said he’s really encouraging his kids to get involved with sport.”
Sure, many royal fans know that Prince William doesn’t like to participate in many contact sports himself. Sure, he’s been spotted at Rugby games in the past but was never a good player himself. Even actor Eddie Redmayne said that William often complained about playing Rugby and getting tackled by the other players.
If that weren’t enough, William hates playing soccer, too. The last time he was photographed playing footie was back when he was 17-years-old. Instead, Prince William prefers to play sports that don’t require much physical contact, including polo and golf. That’s why many royal fans aren’t surprised that young Prince George is already taking after his father. Clearly, he doesn’t like to be touched if he doesn’t have to.
Now, of course this doesn’t mean that Prince George won’t change his mind about contact sports later in life. Kids often change their minds about what they like or don’t like on a daily basis. But if Prince George turns out to be anything like his father, there’s a good chance that he’ll shun any kind of contact altogether. After all, Prince William doesn’t even like to hold his wife Kate Middleton’s hand in public. In fact, he rarely makes an effort to touch her or show any kind of public display of affection. Clearly, Kate Middleton doesn’t want to see her son Prince George grow up the same way.
