Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers preview for the week of April 13 to April 17 teases that the relationship drama will be really heating up on the NBC soap this week. As DOOL viewers know, Steve ‘Patch’ Johnson (Stephen Nichols) has just awakened after his brain surgery, but he doesn’t remember who he is and he doesn’t recognize anyone from his life, including Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans).
Well, the DOOL preview promo for the week of April 13th is all about what happens after Steve does recall his life and his past with Kayla. The promo makes it clear that Steve will emotionally remember his “Sweetness” in a touching moment alone with Kayla.
Steve will be back, and it will be a great relief for Kayla, who was terribly worried that the brain surgery might have destroyed Steve’s memories.
But once Steve comes back, and he and Kayla have shared their emotional moments together, there will be much to discuss. Not only will Steve have to learn about Adrienne Kiriakis’ (Judi Evans) death, which will be difficult enough, but he’ll learn from Kayla that she’s moved on and is currently living with another man…Adrienne’s widow Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth).
That’s going to be a tough blow for Steve, especially since he’s probably not going to remember divorcing Kayla. Actually, the divorce might not even be legal, given that Steve probably didn’t sign the divorce papers willingly, if at all. At any rate, Steve’s surely going to be horrified to learn that Kayla is with someone else.
The Days of Our Lives promo shows Kayla telling Steve that she’s moved on, and Steve is heard in the promo acknowledging that Kayla is with Justin now. But the promo also makes it pretty clear that Steve’s not going give up on Kayla.
He and Justin are shown in a tense moment together, with Steve insisting that Kayla’s his wife. “Ex-wife,” Justin says, correcting him.
From here, it looks like the fight will be on to be the man that Kayla chooses to be with going forward. In the promo, Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) tells Steve to fight for Kayla, while Sonny Kiriakis (Freddie Smith) urges Justin to fight for Kayla, too. And Kayla woefully tells Jennifer Deveraux (Melissa Reeves) that she loves both men.
The pressure will really be on for Kayla to make a decision and choose which man she wants to be with going forward. Justin desperately wants to be the one she chooses, and Steve will be confused and horrified about how his life came to be so discombobulated. To Steve, it will feel like no time has passed and in his mind, he’ll still be married to Kayla.
But in the end, Kayla is going to have to cut someone loose. According to the Days preview, by week’s end, Kayla will have come to a decision. But will she choose the man who she’s spent over 30 years with, or the man who so recently has helped her get through some truly difficult times?
While it might seem like Kayla would automatically choose Steve given their history together, there are some other things to consider here. After all, Steve did basically abandon Kayla after he was released on treason charges all those months ago.
Steve willingly chose not to come home to Kayla before he was captured and turned into Stefano DiMera (last played by Stephen Nichols). Kayla could take this into consideration.
