Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that the NBC soap will continue to deliver hot drama. How long will the new episodes of Days of Our Lives last? We’ve got the lowdown on the COVID-19 aka coronavirus studio shutdown and what it means for DOOL’s future.
As many soap fans know, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful ran out of new episodes on April 23. They’ve been forced to air encore episodes, so they’re trying to keep fans interested through theme weeks surrounding popular rivals, weddings and more.
General Hospital isn’t out of episodes quite yet, but the end is in sight. In an effort to make their episodes last longer, they’ve been doing Flashback Fridays to make sure they only show four episodes a week.
GH is also padding episodes with a ton of previously aired material. They’re stretching things as long as possible by including flashbacks as part of new scenes. It’s a strategy that many viewers have complained about, but General Hospital’s just doing everything they can to keep the drama going.
Of course, Days of Our Lives hasn’t faced any problems at all! They’ve been rolling right along with new episodes and that’ll continue to be the case. DOOL previously got flak for filming so far in advance, but they’re looking pretty smart right about now.
Days of Our Lives isn’t having to add flashbacks or air repeats, which is more than can be said for the other soaps that didn’t shoot as far out.
According to Jason47, Days has close to a whopping 100 episodes left, so they’re going to be fine for quite some time. That means the show can air new episodes for about 20 more weeks – or five more months if you prefer. This leaves Days on the air until October, so hopefully everyone will be back on set to film additional episodes by then.
However, there’s one minor problem that Days will have to address. Due to COVID-19, major sporting events have been cancelled – the same sporting events that Days of Our Lives was set to be preempted for. The show has 13 airdates to fill as a result, so what will they do about that?
It’s a bit tricky since moving full-speed ahead would make Days episodes run out by the end of September instead. It’s possible the show will choose to air some classic episodes on those airdates over the next few months, so we’ll give you updates once DOOL announces what they’re going to do.
Nevertheless, the main thing to take away here is that Days has about 100 episodes left in the can, so you can just sit back and not worry about it for now! We’ll keep you posted on all the latest news.
