The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Michael Muhney (ex-Adam Newman) is speaking out against the CBS soap. On Twitter, Muhney attacked Y&R after fans sent messages about a classic episode featuring his version of Adam. The Young and the Restless alum offered his side of the story about why he never reprised the role following his exit in 2014.
First, Muhney took a jab about what it took to put him back onscreen. “lol only took a global pandemic to get me back on #YR !!!” he tweeted with three crying with laughter emojis. Muhney added, “Signed, Chopped Liver.” It wasn’t long until Muhney sent out other tweets with details on why he wasn’t asked back as Adam.
“The EP at that time made several very poor staffing/casting decisions but that’s Hollywood!” Muhney tweeted. “They always reserve the right to ‘take things in another direction.’ Steve Kent & Angelica M tried to get me back but that EP just wasn’t having it. Honestly, I’m happier now anyway.”
Muhney described how stressed, exhausted and frustrated he used to be. The former Young and the Restless star also dealt with weight gain and sleep issues. Muhney suggested that in the end, his departure from Y&R was a good thing.
“I swear I was a candidate for a heart attack I probably woulda been dead by now,” Muhney said. “Leaving that show saved my life. I got back on the bike and cherish everyday now.”
One Twitter user asked Muhney about the loyalty of fans who chose to quit watching after his exit. Muhney gushed about those people and their touching support, but he didn’t leave out the fans who sided with him and chose to stay tuned.
“Oh man the loyalty of hundreds of thousands meant so much,” Muhney said. “Those who stopped and those who didn’t. Filled up my heart! I knew eventually all the weird soap internet theories would die off as the truth shone through. But everyone sticking by my side was beautiful.”
As Muhney wrapped things up, he pointed out that he learned a lot and created a better version of himself following his departure. Muhney “made lemonade from lemons” and found a way forward despite what he clearly viewed as unfair treatment.
“My life is qualitatively better in every regard,” Muhney insisted. “The journey can be bumpy but you just hang on and keep going!” It sounds like Muhney’s found peace, so all his fans certainly wish him the best.
