The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor’s (Melissa Ordway) future has taken some serious hits – and there are more to come. First, Abby found out she wouldn’t be able to carry a baby, which was a tough enough blow.
Once Abby wrapped her head around that shocker and settled on surrogacy as a backup option, she found out Chance Chancellor (Donny Boaz) had low sperm count and motility issues.
Now Chance has also taken a mysterious phone call that’ll tie in with his disappearance. Abby will soon find out that her husband is gone, but is he gone for good?
When Boaz explained his departure on Instagram, he said he was told that Chance wasn’t being replaced or killed off. Of course, that really doesn’t mean anything. Just because an actor was told something doesn’t mean it’s the truth – or that TPTB won’t change their minds down the road.
After all, what’s Abby going to do now? The Young and the Restless finally put Abby in a successful pairing after years of trying, but now Chance is vanishing out of the blue.
Will they really just leave Abby in limbo like that indefinitely? Abby has faced enough heartbreak for a lifetime at this point, so Y&R might go with another option at some point.
The Young and the Restless insiders insist there’s more to the story of Donny Boaz’s firing and exit – that there were other behind-the-scenes issues that led up to this. It doesn’t seem as simple as a cost-cutting measure like Boaz initially claimed he was told.
That may have been one reason, but there were likely other reasons that may never be revealed.
Regardless, we have to consider the possibility that Melissa Ordway’s real-life husband, Justin Gaston, might serve as a Chance recast once again. Gaston did a great job when he filled in for Boaz, who had to take time off after testing positive for COVID-19.
Plenty of fans preferred Gaston in the role or at least didn’t mind him.
Chance and Abby’s wedding scenes were beautiful along with the sweet honeymoon scenes that followed. As a bonus, Gaston and Ordway can kiss and touch as a real-life couple.
Even if Y&R doesn’t want to put Gaston on contract, he might be willing to work as a recurring player. If The Young and the Restless wants to continue Abby and Chance’s story eventually, Gaston might reprise the role.
It’s something to think about, especially considering the nature of Chance’s mysterious disappearance. It’d be weird for Y&R to just leave that mystery dangling indefinitely, so Gaston could make some appearances to help wrap things up – or start a brand-new chapter!
