The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Friday, July 9 Recap – Phyllis’ Surprise Italy Trip – Adam Suspects Anita Broken Hip a Con

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers recap for Friday, July 9, reveals that Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) will suspect Anita Lawson’s (Catherine Bach) broken hip con for Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan). Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) will also show up in Italy as a big surprise, so here’s what Y&R fans can expect.

In the park, Connor Newman (Judah Mackey) will talk about how much he missed Chelsea. He’ll wonder if his mom is still sick and ask when she’s coming home.

Chelsea won’t be sure, but she’ll insist she’s getting better by the day and is hoping to be home soon. She’ll add that seeing Connor again is the best medicine of all.

While Connor’s grabbing some drinks from a nearby vendor, Adam will admit that Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) played a role in his decision to let Chelsea see Connor.

Chelsea will insist they have to put all their cards on the table – no more threats, no more games. She’ll be ecstatic when Adam reveals her release is in motion and will swear she’s going to play by the rules.

After Adam and Chelsea kick a soccer ball around with Connor, Chelsea will assume it’s making Adam think of old times. She’ll point out that things will never be the same – and Adam will agree there’s no going back. That said, Adam won’t want to be enemies.

Chelsea will talk about how she lost months with her son and needs to spend as much time with him as possible. She’ll note that Connor’s staying with Adam and his family, but Adam will suggest they can discuss other arrangements as the need arises.

Chelsea will seem agitated, but she’ll assure Adam that’s no problem. After Adam walks away, Chelsea will look uneasy and sigh.

At the Abbott mansion, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) will greet Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) after their flight back to Genoa City.

They’ll talk about Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez) as well as their concerns about heartbroken Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor).

Kyle will appear and admit he really thought it’d work out with Summer Newman (Hunter King) this time, too.

Ashley will be mystified by why Summer would walk away, but Jack will point out Summer has broken engagements before. Kyle will note that it’s the first time Summer ran off to another continent.

When Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) enters, Kyle will mention how some people didn’t make all this any easier. Billy will get an earful about the article he published since Kyle will think he went too far.

After Billy defends himself, he’ll give Kyle his word that nothing that happens behind those Abbott walls will end up in an article.

Moments later, Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) will bring Harrison in. Kyle will make introductions and insist that everyone’s there to welcome Harrison to the family.

Ashley will notice Harrison’s well-loved stuffed fox and will find out his name is Zippy. Jack will recall how Ashley’s favorite doll as a child was Esmeralda as they all joke around and have a good time.

While Kyle and Harrison are in the kitchen getting muffins, the rest of the family will get to know Tara a bit better.

Tara will mention that both her parents have passed on. She’ll add that she has a brother named Shane who’s a few years younger, but she’ll point out they’re not close.

Tara will also praise Traci for the Abbott family history book and will be glad Harrison’s joining such a wonderful legacy. As for the future, Tara will talk about how she’s planting roots there in Genoa City so Harrison can be close to Kyle.

Tara will also bring up her plans to work with Lauren Baldwin (Tracey E. Bregman) and make a name for herself with her shoe line.

Once Tara steps out to check on Harrison, Jack will point out that she’s really something. Billy will get a strange look and suggest he was just thinking the same thing.

Later, Jack will assure Ashley that grandkids keep you young as she looks forward to Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor’s (Melissa Ordway) bundle of joy.

They’ll touch on the strange situation with Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) not being in touch, but none of the Abbotts will seem too concerned at this point.

Traci will also pitch a family book club idea, which Billy will be on board with. Although Billy will have to take off, the rest of the gang will agree to play with Harrison at his request.

Billy will push for a moment alone with Kyle first and will reveal that Summer asked him to be a friend to Kyle. “Thanks, but no thanks,” Kyle will reply.

Billy will drop a hint about making sure Kyle’s careful about how he moves on. He’ll mention that Tara’s probably lonely right now, but Kyle will shut down the conversation.

“Wanna be my friend? Stay out of my business,” Kyle will declare.

Once the gang comes back from playing with Harrison, Tara will thank everyone for such a special day. She’ll suggest Harrison’s not going to forget it – and neither will Tara.

Kyle will exchange a smile with Harrison as they savor the moment.

In Italy, Summer and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) will toast to a successful shopping excursion. Summer will thank Nick for being there to get her settled in and for helping with the transition.

Summer will also think Nick needs to come clean about something before he catches his flight tomorrow.

Summer will know Nick’s been trying to keep her out of the loop on the ChancComm article on Ashland Locke’s (Richard Burgi) divorce and all the drama that went with it.

However, Summer will admit she knows all about it. She’ll think it’s just proof that she was right to leave when she did, but Nick will wonder if Summer’s sure her marriage wouldn’t have worked.

Summer will urge Nick to stop looking for secret regrets and will insist she’s not going to fall apart. Leaving Kyle was painful, but Summer will feel like she did what was best for everyone and will promise she’s going to be fine.

Summer will ask a favor from Nick once he gets home. She’ll insist Kyle did nothing wrong and will make Nick promise not to be too hard on her ex-fiancé.

When it’s time for Summer to leave Nick’s suite, they’ll cry and hug as Nick tells her “arrivederci.”

Afterward, Nick will take a call from Phyllis before hearing a knock at the door. He’ll open it and find Phyllis before she dives into Nick’s arms to kiss him passionately.

Phyllis will tell Nick she’s going to have breakfast with Summer in the morning, but she’ll want tonight to be about them. The clothes will start coming off as Nick and Phyllis prepare to make love.

Once they’re basking in the afterglow, Phyllis will tell Nick they both know there’s more to the story of why Summer left Kyle and Genoa City so abruptly.

At Society, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) will meet with Nina Webster (Tricia Cast) about a new project for ChancComm. She’ll want Nina to do a series of feature stories that focus on the old guard versus the new guard in the business world.

“I am so in,” Nina will insist excitedly. She’ll call home to check in and realize Mariah still hasn’t been in touch.

Once Billy’s home with Lily, he’ll talk about what a sweet boy Harrison is. “His mother, on the other hand…” Billy will say as he trails off.

Lily will assume Billy means Tara is not so sweet, but he’ll suggest that maybe she’s too sweet – that there’s more going on with Tara than anyone else knows.

Billy will note that Tara made herself at home in record time, so Lily will realize he told Kyle that. Billy will insist he has to watch out for Kyle since he promised Summer.

Lily won’t think this is any of Billy’s business and will push him to let it go, but Billy won’t look like he’s going to.

Back in the park, Adam will assure Connor that he’ll get to see his mom again. Chelsea won’t want Connor to worry and will note this is just goodbye for now. Adam will promise to be in touch before he leads Connor away.

A little later, Adam will return with news about Anita’s broken hip. Chelsea will wonder if her mom’s going to be OK, so Adam will insist there’s no reason to be scared.

However, Anita does need surgery and is hoping the judge will allow Chelsea to help her recover.

Chelsea will hope so as well and will point out Anita doesn’t have anybody else. She’ll turn away from Adam before he asks if she concocted this whole thing with her mother.

Chelsea will understand why Adam would think that, but she’ll insist this isn’t some nefarious plot. She’ll assure Adam that she’s just as shocked and will assume Adam called the hospital to confirm Anita’s claims.

Adam will mention that Anita had conveniently given permission to give out her medical status to him. Chelsea will think it’s a stretch for Anita to con an entire hospital and will argue that her mom didn’t break her hip on purpose.

Adam will push for the truth and will ask if this was Chelsea’s backup plan in case Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) wouldn’t agree to have her released.

Chelsea will swear it wasn’t and will argue that the timing is just a coincidence. She’ll want to go take care of Anita, so she’ll push Adam to talk to Victor again.

Chelsea will offer to wear an ankle monitor and be under the care of an orderly. “I’ll do whatever it takes!” Chelsea will exclaim. She’ll add that if she’s allowed to go, she’ll naturally want to bring Connor with her.

Adam will shoot Chelsea a look that says he’s shocked and outraged over the suggestion.
