The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that a mystery’s underway in Genoa City, so we have to ask: Did Alice Johnson (Tamara Clatterbuck) kidnap Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes)? Could Cassie Newman’s (Camryn Grimes) former adoptive mom have come back for a new baby? Let’s consider some intriguing hints as we ponder the possibility.
Alice was a neglectful adoptive mother who didn’t look after Cassie like she should, so that became part of the story when Alice resurfaced in 2017.
Y&R fans may recall that Alice was the den mother for the prostitution ring that Crystal Porter (Morgan Obenreder) was caught up in.
Alice justified her actions because she thought she was truly taking care of those girls. It was almost like a way to make up for botching things with Cassie when she was child.
It seemed like something that still haunted Alice – even more so when Mariah and Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) kidnapped Alice to get answers about Crystal.
Mariah gaslit Alice briefly by posing as Cassie’s ghost and encouraging her to do the right thing, which led to Crystal being reunited with Tessa.
Alice was run down and nearly killed for her betrayal of the prostitution ringleader, Zack Stinnett (Ryan Ashton), but she ultimately disappeared from the hospital. Where did Alice go – and what might she be up to now?
It’s possible Alice has resurfaced once again for a fresh start with another baby. It’s easy to see why Alice might repay the kidnapping favor and scoop Mariah up.
Alice might not even know that Mariah is a surrogate for Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Melissa Ordway).
Perhaps Alice thought she was going after Mariah’s own baby and considered this to be a link to Cassie.
Alice was always a rather irrational, messy character.
Alice was the kind of woman who might’ve decided to steal a new kid to raise as a do-over – especially since she probably misses taking care of all those girls as the den mother.
Alice might’ve gone off the rails and targeted Mariah, which fits with some of the dialogue in the July 16 episode.
There’s talk about Mariah’s kidnapper possibly being connected to Mariah or Tessa’s past.
There’s even talk about the prostitution ring and Tessa’s sister, so the show’s bringing up the right elements and timeframe for Alice to be included here.
Could Alice eventually be revealed as Mariah’s captor? It’d be a great story twist that would tie in with Y&R history, so it’s worth mulling over.
Regardless, this hot plot is only going to get hotter, so stay tuned!
