The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Summer Newman-Abbott (Hunter King) will face a crushing blow when bad news travels fast, so let’s talk about what it means for the character’s future. Y&R fans know Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) recently broke up, so that means they’ll have to fill their daughter in eventually.
Of course, neither Nick nor Phyllis will be looking forward to dropping this bomb, but they’ll know it needs to be done. When Phyllis bumps into Nick at Society, they’ll share some awkward moments as they discuss their latest split.
The topic of how to tell Summer will come up, so Phyllis will think they should sit down and plan the best way to break it to her.
Phyllis will feel like they have to take the mature approach and avoid bad-mouthing each other. She’ll know Summer’s going to want answers, so they need to be prepared.
Unfortunately, Nick’s wounds will be a bit too fresh for this conversation. He’ll bow out before they can really settle anything, so Phyllis will be left even more frustrated.
However, Summer will get updates one way or another. Phyllis may go ahead and call Summer since she can’t get Nick to talk to her long enough to decide anything else.
Even if that just involves an offscreen phone call or video chat, this news could hit Summer hard.
Part of Summer probably won’t be surprised since she knows her parents have been down this breakup road before. At the same time, Summer’s heart will break for Nick and Phyllis since they seemed happy together not all that long ago.
It might even stir up concerns for Summer about her marriage to Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and whether they can stand the test of time.
If Y&R ever decides to bring Summer back on canvas without Kyle, that could certainly lead to relationship trouble.
Summer’s marriage should remain secure for now, but Nick and Phyllis’ split could also affect her more imminent plans.
Things are going to be uncomfortable, so Summer might have reservations about coming home for the holidays. Newman family problems are what led to this “Phick” split, so that could be a factor as well.
Will all the drama affect where Summer spends Thanksgiving and Christmas?
Summer will also have to take Kyle and Harrison Locke’s (Kellen Enriquez) feelings into consideration, but the idea of returning to Newman clan tension may not be something Summer’s thrilled about.
In the meantime, Summer should let both Phyllis and Nick know she’s only a phone call away if they need to talk. The Young and the Restless spoilers say Nick and Phyllis’ broken hearts will heal sooner or later, so stay tuned to see what’s next for them.
