General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Helena Mattsson is joining GH as a Sasha Gilmore recast, so Sofia Mattsson’s older sister will fill in temporarily. SOD confirms that when Sofia had to miss filming, she pitched the idea of her sister taking her place – though Helena only had a day to get ready!
Helena got on board and enjoyed working with Johnny Wactor (Brando Corbin) in new scenes that’ll air starting February 17.
It’s great that Sofia and Helena look so much alike. Helena is pretty much the best recast they could ask for since she’s talented and certainly looks the part.
Of course, Helena has plenty of acting experience as well. She’s been featured in many films along with TV shows like American Horror Story, The Rookie, Paper Empire, Mistresses and more.
As for how long Helena will be sticking around as a temporary Sasha Gilmore recast, she only filmed enough material for a handful of episodes.
Even so, that’s more than enough time for Helena to put her own spin on Sasha and make her sister proud.
GH fans are used to pop-up temp recasts since the show relies on them often at this point.
It’s no big deal to embrace a new player for a few episodes, especially when there’s a fun sister connection like with Helena and Sofia.
Helena will have to tackle some dramatic material since Sasha’s still dealing with a difficult loss.
Sasha faced the crushing blow of losing her baby boy, but she’s pretending everything’s fine instead of opening up and breaking down that grief barrier.
That’s been frustrating for Brando, who went through the same loss and wants them to lean on each other.
The February 17 episode will force Sasha to talk, but she may not have much to say on the topic of Liam Corbin or her future with Brando.
Brando will try to figure out where Sasha’s head is at and whether he still fits in her life.
Unfortunately, Sasha will make work her priority during the week of February 21-25, so Brando may continue to feel like a heartbroken outsider.
