In tonight’s NCIS LA, Callen was using his time off to continue his investigation into Hetty. He wanted to know why Hetty chose him. Why did she gather a bunch of foster kids for testing? Who ordered it? Where are the kids involved now? Callen has a bunch of questions. Which is why he sent someone after Hetty.

He wanted to know her movements and, while he may have lost sight of her, he was still following other people connected to his youth. Callen was doing that as his team had caught a new case. The rest of the team were investigating a low level federal crime. And they weren’t helping Sam who had his own case.

Sam had to use his undercover persona as Switch to check out a suspect in a murder. The murder of undercover ATF Agent Scott Reid of all things. Reid was shot twice in the chest in a parking lot and he lived just long enough to tell his friend Lance a name. The name was Vander.

Vander was a suspect in a dirty agents ring involving federal officers. Reid was investigating him when it seems his cover was blown and he was murdered for it. But Vander has a history with the Switch persona. This therefore made Sam the perfect to go in undercover and to bring this Vander to justice. And so that’s what Sam did.

First, Sam reached out to some of his cold contacts to see if his cover had been blown the last time he used it. It thankfully was still good. Sam then reintroduced himself to the underworld by robbing some Korean bikers gang and soon word got out that Switch was back. Switch may not have wanted to say it out loud.

Only he enjoyed himself. He had fun robbing the bankers and being a bad guy. He and Lance were up to all sorts of shenanigans as the rest of the team continued looking into the theft of classified naval schematics. It turns out an engineer was involved in the theft. She was trying to sell it for a price.

The team went all around looking for this woman. They even ran into a millionaire real estate agent who tried to sell Kensi and Deeks a property for three point one million dollars. But of course that was way out of their budget. The team later caught up to their engineer. Ryan Louge tried to deny the charges at first and so Killbride let her stew for a bit. He gave her time. Time to think. Time to question if she covered herself properly. She hadn’t and, by time she realized that, she was ready to talk. She told the team about stealing the schematics. She said she did it because some Eastern European criminal had threatened her father.

The team looked into it. They got a hold of the arms dealers that supposedly made a threat and he claimed Louge was lying. He said he never threatened anyone. He wasn’t some level crook, either. He was an arms dealer and he told them that he was a big deal. He also mentioned a website on the dark web that should visit. He said that would explain everything. The team first had to hack their way onto the dark web and once there they looked up the address given to them. But as Fatima was doing her work, Sam was doing his. He got close to Vander. They talked about the old days and Sam even asked Vander about the book with the list of dirty cops.

Unfortunately, when he did so, he blew his cover. Vander knew that only the cops knew about the list and so he became aware that Switch was really a cop. Vander’s security guard went after Sam. Vander tried to escape in the chaos. Sam caught up to him. Sam even tried to convince Vander to turn himself in and Vander refused. He went out into the open in spite of Sam telling him a sniper was waiting for him. Vander’s last words was that he didn’t want to go out like some “b*tch”. His later death plagued Sam because Sam did love him. Vander taught him everything he knew as Switch. Vander loved him as a son and Sam loved him as a father.

Sam hated the way things ended between them. He didn’t even care that his cover was still safe. He lost a friend and he grieved. Lance for his part had understood Sam’s grief. He gave Sam his condolences and he did the paperwork for this one. The other part of the team closed their case as well. They found out that Louge was selling her service on the dark web. She hadn’t been coerced like she claimed. She stole those classified documents because she wanted to sell them to the highest bidder and now she faces life in prison for this federal crime. But as for Callen, the woman he was spying on had nothing to do with Hetty as it happens.

The woman was one of his former foster moms. She was really good to him. He had wanted to stay with her until Hetty pulled him out of there and he never looked back. Not until now.

THE END!
