In tonight’s 9-1-1 episode, six months ago, Maddie left. She left with no warning. She created a video for her boyfriend so that he’d understand that she was leaving on her own accord and that was no one making her do this. She left because she thought she was a threat to her daughter. She was suffering from postpartum depression.

She wasn’t sleeping and she fell asleep while she was bathing her baby. The baby almost drowned. She would have if Maddie hadn’t woken up in time. Maddie has been through a lot and so she needed to get away to heal. The healing didn’t begin immediately. She first tried to kill herself and that’s what ultimately pushed her into getting help.

Maddie checked herself into a psychiatric facility. The facility helped make sure that she wouldn’t hurt herself or others and that she finally got treated for some long-term depression. She began feeling depressed at age nine when her brother died. She was never treated. She went from one bad situation to a next one with her abusive husband.

But medication. Therapy. Even being diagnosed with a thyroid issue helped her. Maddie got treated for everything wrong. She started to feel a change and she was released from the facility. She went on to get an apartment. She continued going to group therapy at the Women’s Mental Health Clinic in a different state.

Maddie was able to watch videos of Chimney with their daughter. Chimney continued to send her photos and videos of the baby. He was hoping it would convince her to return home or tell her family where she was. It didn’t work as he planned. Maddie reached out to her surviving brother, Buck. She told him that she saw Chimney was in Utah.

She asked why he was there and so he told her that Chimney is looking for her. He’s on the road looking for her in each place she’s ever lived, hoping for a sign of her. Buck then asked her where she was. She refused to tell him and she got paranoid about him or Chimney finding her.

Maddie was going to leave the city she was in because she thought the risk of seeing Chimney was too high. But she made a friend in Massachusetts. This friend depended on her and Maddie didn’t want to abandon her. She stayed on in spite of the risk. She knew that sooner or later that Chimney was going to find her and she stopped caring.

She didn’t mind if he did. Find her that is. Maddie had made a new life for herself and she wasn’t the only one. Chimney came to learn that Maddie was in Boston. He went there. He brough little Jee with him. They stayed with a friend while Chimney worked at the Boston Medical Volunteer Core.

It didn’t pay. Chimney was in fact running out of funds because he had been living on savings as he ran after Maddie and so he needed to return to LA. Maddie was actually thinking the same thing. She stayed in Boston for her friend Kira. Only Kira started drinking again. It exacerbate her already fraught mental health and to make matters worse Kira also found out that Maddie could have seen her own child at any time. She wasn’t being kept away from her child like Kira was. Kira found that out when they went to the hospital together and they saw a photo of Maddie on the message board indicating that she’s missing.

Missing but very much wanted. Something Kira is not. Kira turned against Maddie and Maddie then tried to find her drunk friend is a sea of drunk people at a St. Patrick’s Day parade. Maddie later ran into her friend as she was dying of alcohol poisoning. She rushed to treat her and so did Chimney. He was working the parade. He helped in to help. He and Maddie saw each other and they didn’t say anything. Not at first. Maddie went to the hospital with Kira. Once she saw that her friend was receiving proper treatment, she left to find Chimney waiting outside. Chimney took her to task for leaving. He said that the thing with the bathtub was an accident.

It’s not like Maddie intentionally tried to hurt their daughter. Chimney said as much. Maddie replied that she was a danger to herself if no one else and that she tried to kill herself. The only reason she was still alive is that she stopped herself by thinking of her family. Maddie and Chimney talked. They talked for a while before Chimney reintroduced her to little Jee. Jee was no longer a baby. She was now a toddler. A toddler who didn’t like strangers. Something that Maddie now was to the little girl and so Maddie didn’t hold her. She instead just let Jee get used to her presence. It got better with time. Jee even called her “mama”.

Maddie later checked in on her friend. Kira was doing better. She has to return to rehab and it was going to be another two months before she saw her son again. But Kira now has to learn to stand on her own two feet. Maddie doesn’t need to babysit her anymore. She needed to return to LA with her family.

THE END!
