Detective Nyla Harper wants to get married. She overheard someone refer to her as the baby mama and she didn’t like it. She wanted to marry her boyfriend so that she would be his wife. Not the baby mama. Harper proposes to her boyfriend. She didn’t do it in a romantic sense. She literally just told him she didn’t want to be the baby mama and that they could get married at the courthouse seeing as she was already going to be there that day. She also dropped this information on James right as he woke up. He hadn’t been in the right frame of mind for any proposal much less a poor one. And so he panicked.
James agreed to get married. He hadn’t wanted to freeze again because the last time he did so was when Harper told him she was pregnant and so James said “yes” even though he wasn’t feeling in a yes mood. James does love her. he does want to marry her. Only, he wanted to be the one to ask. He also hadn’t wanted them to get married just so she wouldn’t be called a baby mama. James discussed it with Wes and another friend. He told them how he panicked. His friends were good in the sense that they didn’t judge him and they got where he was coming from. James was a romantic. He hadn’t wanted to be practical.
The practicality was Harper’s thing. Harper is on light duty due to her advanced pregnancy. Her rookie Aaron had been assigned to Bradford and Bradford’s usual riding partner Chen got to ride with Nolan. While she was riding with Nolan, Chen mentioned how underappreciated she was feeling. It was Bradford who gets all the credit at work. She does the paperwork and she sometimes solves the case, but because Bradford is a Sergeant, Bradford got the credit and to make things worse it had been Chen’s idea to work with him. She’s now kicking herself for that decision. Chen and Nolan got called to a train depo where they ran into a familiar face.
Remember, Officer Larry Macer. He went by the nickname Badger. He was the older rookie who washed out on his first day because he shot up the precinct and not only did this man fail upwards by getting another job as a cop. He was now a Sergeant with the State Freight PD. He became a cop again after forty hours of mandatory gun training. Badger said that people were stealing from the train by throwing any and everything off during transition. The real cops saw the mess. They were getting details from Badger when they heard gunshots and it led to them finding Badger’s partner shot.
Chen and Nolan called it. They got an ambulance for Kenny. It was a through and through. Kenny was going to be fine and Badger was mostly dismissed by everyone and that was with a partner that got shot. With Badger cut out, it was up to Harper and Lopez to finish the investigation. They realized that one item was stolen. It’s why the train depot was raided and it’s why Kenny was shot. The thing that the shooter was looking for was a vase. The vase was connected to a man behind bars. He was once rich and his kids turned him in and now they still get to be rich. The kids showed the police a picture of the vase.
The vase had a piece of it missing that the kids claimed not to know about. But somehow Badger put things together. Badger saw an image of the vase before it was broken. He noticed that something was written on it and he realized it was an offshore account due to his days in IT. It turns out the rich man squirreled something away for a rainy day. He tried hiding it from his kids. He even told his cellmate about it and that’s how the train got raided. By then, the spoiled kids had found out about the bank account and they broke off the piece. And so when a friend of their dads went looking for the vase it was already too late.
It was a race on for the final clue hidden in the rich man’s items. Items that were still on a train somewhere. The police officers went to one depot and Badger heard about fire and so he was directed to another depot because he said the train would have gotten rerouted due to the fire. Badger, Nolan, and Chen spotted the siblings all trying to steal their father’s items to get the password to the bank account. They were all arrested. One for shooting a cop. Badger also got to take credit for the arrest. Chen originally wanted it only she realized Badger deserved it more. And he finally won the respect of the detectives.
Later, everyone went to Harper and James’s wedding reception. He had needed a day to think about it, but he ultimately loved Harper and that’s all that matters. He later proposed. She said yes. They got married at the courthouse. They had a hastily arranged wedding reception thanks to Lopez. And even Harper’s daughter was there.
Bradford and Chen danced at the party. He told her that in the future that he was going to give her the credit for the arrests they made and this will be huge for her career.
