In tonight’s FBI International episode, Forrester was finally learning Hungarian. He even got a tutor. He figured he’s been living in Budapest long enough to learn the language and that’s what pushed him to hire Sara to teach him. Sara was young. She was beautiful.
She was also interested in him. Sara let it be known that she would much rather be tutoring Forster than out dancing and so that alone was very telling. But work eventually called. Forrester was asked to travel to France for a case and that put an end to his flirtation with Sara. For now. Forrester and his team were asked by Europol to investigate a murder of an American.
The American was named Daniel Spencer. Spencer moved to a small French town to open up a winery with his wife and he also managed to convince his best friend Henry Martin to move to the area on his own as well. However, both men faced stiff opposition to their wineries.
The small town had turned against them. They hated Americans. They hated that Americans weren’t suffering like they were. They hated that the French government was driving them into bankruptcy like they were the French. This small town was also known as the center of a French right-wing organization called “CRAV”.
Europol was worried that a murder of an American was just the first step in a terror plan. They asked Forrester and his team to go there to investigate and what they found was a town that hated all outsiders. Especially Americans. Daniel and Henry came in with the idea of revolutionizing wine.
This ticked off the French wineries and they turned to CRAV. CRAV was a small group until this. They were known for intimidation tactics. They’ve even burned down French-raised wineries that tried to switch and grow olive trees. What they have never done is kill. Not until now. The community was looking to push out the Americans that were buying land and that’s when CRAV came in.
Or to better put it that’s when Guillaume Marais came in. Marais made himself out to be one of the people and he is French. He had military experience. He firmly believed in ousting all outsider influence. He even ran Henry’s wine tanker off the road. It ruined the wine. He lost money from that. He tried to fight Marais and unfortunately Marias was more experienced.
He would have killed Henry if Forrester hadn’t stepped in. Forrester and his team were just as hated as all outsiders. The local police hadn’t even wanted to help them. They didn’t give them office space. They put up in an old house that had been abandoned in town.
The only one the team thought was willing to talk was an American chef living in town. The chef has lived in France for most of his adult life. He did his best to learn the culture and to adapt their customs but often forgotten that he wasn’t one of them.
The chef was willing to talk to Forrester. He told Forrester about how Daniel and Henry rubbed people the wrong way. He said he asked them to meet with Marais. To talk to Marais about settling in. Henry wasn’t willing to do it and so Daniel did. Daniel’s wife was pregnant. He had more of a vested interest in making his life in France work. The chef didn’t hear how the meeting went. He just knew it happened weeks ago.
Forrester noticed that one of the sous chefs was recording them. He pursued the guy and the guy pulled a knife on him. They fought. Forrester was in fact losing when Vo stepped in to save him. They called in the local police to deal with the stabber and Forrester also told them that if they didn’t help that he will personally make a call to Paris to get city cops out to the town. So, that’s when the local police stopped ignoring evidence. They started assisting the investigation and they also gave Forrester an actual office to work out of. Forrester later met with Marais. Marais admitted to intimidation tactics. Nothing else.
He said neither he nor CRAV had anything to do with the murder. They would never lower themselves to it. Marais had full control over his people and this town. They had nothing to do with the murder. The FBI looked up Marais’s phone records. He was clear. Henry’s wasn’t.
Henry was in talks with a radical that had been kicked out of CRAV and he was talking to the guy even on the day that his supposed best friend was murdered. It turns out that Henry had been behind the worst scare tactics. He ordered that Daniel’s door being kicked in. He ordered that Daniel’s vats are shot out and unfortunately the man he hired took things too far. And ended up shooting Daniel.
Henry was trying to get Daniel and his wife out of France because they made a partnership agreement that states if anyone abandons the winery that it had to be sold to the remaining partner. It had to be sold at the initial value. Not the value it was now. This meant Henry would have gotten millions for scaring away his best friend and he did so because he didn’t come from family money. He didn’t have it made like Daniel. It’s why he never bothered to make nice with the locals. He was just out to make a quick buck. His wife knew about it too. And so they were both going to be charged with Daniel’s murder.
But the team caught the shooter and so that guy was going away for life.
In the end, the Americans were responsible for another American dying. Daniel’s widow Shannon had said she wishes her former friends will both go to hell.
And Forrester returned to Budapest where he had another tutoring session.
THE END!
