General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Thursday, January 5, reveals that Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) paid Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) a visit at the stables with updates on Mac Scorpio’s (John J. York) behalf. Cody was crushed to learn Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) was dead by “The Hook” and shared a tender moment with Felicia as he mourned the loss.
Meanwhile, Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) was also shaken up over Britt’s death, but she accepted Curtis Ashford’s (Donnell Turner) special plant as a gift to signify their new married beginning.
Both Curtis and Portia were excited to become husband and wife.
Outside Britt’s hotel suite, a reporter hounded Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) for a comment before Brad Cooper (Parry Shen) snapped at him.
Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) forced the reporter to leave and sought help since the funeral home needed an outfit for Britt.
Inside Britt’s room, Brad and Maxie realized most of her stuff was gone.
Nina knew a lot of it had been shipped ahead or donated, so Maxie and Brad thought it was almost like Britt knew her death was coming.
Brad and Maxie acknowledged how hard Britt had pushed for them to be friends. Plus, there was this big party and strange vacation.
Brad also remembered that Britt left him everything in her will, so Nina finally urged him to sit down along with Maxie and brace for more news.
Nina confessed that Britt had Huntington’s disease and that she only found out because Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) was overwhelmed keeping the secret.
Maxie realized Austin Gatlin Holt (Roger Howarth) must’ve known since he put that photo montage together for the birthday bash.
Brad was upset since he would’ve been there for Britt and had an angry outburst.
Nevertheless, Maxie and Brad ultimately focused on the task at hand, so they had some bittersweet banter about what Britt should wear for her final look.
It was just the kind of bickering that Britt would’ve been amused by, so it seems she was smart to push Brad and Maxie together as pals!
At GH, Austin found Liesl packing up Britt’s office and insisted on taking over.
Liesl thanked Austin for the photo montage he put together, so he hoped it made Britt feel loved and changed her mind about leaving.
Liesl realized Britt’s vacation was about going away to die.
Austin reflected on the epic last week of Britt’s life and thought the way she went out was pretty “badass,” but Liesl was still distraught without her daughter.
At the PCPD, Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) questioned Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) about his relationship with Esme Prince (Avery Pohl).
After Dante pointed out pregnant Esme couldn’t take someone like Brando Corbin (Johnny Wactor) or Rory Cabrera (Michael Blake Kruse) down, he suggested she must’ve had help.
Nikolas asked if Dante thought he was Esme’s accomplice, so Dante replied that Esme was the key if not the killer.
Someone was looking out for Esme, so Dante thought no one would have more reason to do that than the father of her baby.
Nikolas refused to stay there and let Dante go on a fishing expedition. After Nikolas said Dante had nothing, Dante asked why Nik was so angry then.
At GH again, Esme was in restraints and mentioned that the police were saying she did terrible things.
Once Esme mentioned her memory issues, Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) said there was someone who might be able to help.
When Dr. Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) appeared, Esme insisted she remembered that face and knew who he was.
However, Esme seemed confused after Kevin revealed he was a psychiatrist.
Although Esme felt Kevin had a trustworthy face, it was like the memory was just out of reach.
Kevin eventually admitted Esme knew his twin brother and added that Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) was hard to forget.
Esme learned she knew Ryan through an internship and still seemed puzzled.
Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight) shut down Kevin’s shrink session since he’d been assigned to Esme’s case by a judge.
After Martin assured Esme that it was pro bono as far as she was concerned, he warned her not to talk to doctors or anyone else.
Esme found out she was being accused of murder in the first degree and flipped out over the shocker.
Later, Esme assured Elizabeth that she didn’t remember anything and seemed hopeful as she asked if Liz believed her.
Over with Nikolas, he caught up with Martin and admitted he pulled strings to get him assigned to Esme’s case.
Esme was carrying Nik’s baby, so he wanted Martin to represent her.
Nikolas offered triple Martin’s fee and wanted the mother of his child to be kept safe until the birth.
Liz walked over soon after, so Nikolas said Esme was in good hands with “Uncle Martin.”
When Nina showed up after receiving Liesl’s text, she found Britt’s office empty. That left Nina wondering where Liesl could be.
Back in Esme’s room, she couldn’t sleep and hoped for stronger drugs. Liesl was wearing Britt’s lab coat as she smiled and said that could be arranged.
At Spring Ridge, Ryan grilled Heather Webber (Alley Mills) about where she was last night before admitting he’d figured out she was “The Hook.”
Heather argued that someone had to look out for their daughter, but Ryan argued that Heather still couldn’t seem to hook the right fish.
If Heather really wanted to help Esme, Ryan said she should confess so their daughter could go free.
Heather countered that the cops would know Esme was innocent the next time she hooked someone, but Ryan got irritated and grabbed her arm.
Since Heather got shot in the wrist, she yelped in pain and hinted that she “took one for the team” last night.
Ryan shared Heather’s motivations – just not her methods.
Heather felt she did what any good mother would do and thought Esme would thank her, but Ryan said not if the rest of the family had to pay the price.
That led to Heather learning Esme was pregnant, so she was thrilled over her first grandbaby.
There was talk about how maybe it wasn’t too late for Ryan and Heather to have a family of their own.
Ryan acted like there’d be a place for Ava Jerome (Maura West) in that family and pointed out it would include Esme’s child now, too.
Heather wanted to be there to support Esme when the baby was born and urged Ryan to just let her do her thing when it came to her next attack.
As soon as Heather found another hook, she told Ryan they’d be back in business.
Ryan learned that the first hook got snagged, but she assured him there was no way it’d be traced back to her.
At the police station, Kevin told Dante that in his professional opinion, Esme had suffered significant memory loss.
The doc added that they may never know where Esme had been or who had been taking care of her.
Dante noted that Esme was in no condition to be “The Hook,” so the most pressing question was who the real killer was.
General Hospital spoilers say the grandbaby shocker could drive Heather to make even crazier decisions, so stay tuned!
