General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that the show might take advantage of some familiar chemistry and test the waters on a new pairing. GH fans will recall that Roger Howarth previously played Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) until he was killed off back in 2021.
Of course, Howarth returned to the show just a few months later and came on the scene playing Austin Gatlin Holt.
Reactions to Austin have been a mixed bag, especially since he often feels like Franco with a different name.
However, Franco was more self-deprecating than Austin, whose humor has a slightly different flavor.
That said, Howarth’s line delivery is quite similar, so he still gives off Franco-ish vibes pretty often.
Now that fans have had plenty of time to get used to Howarth playing Austin, could the show revisit Rebecca Herbst and Roger Howarth’s onscreen chemistry?
Liz and Franco had plenty of supporters before the latter’s untimely demise.
Although some viewers were never able to get past Franco’s history and accept his brain tumor redemption, he had a sweet connection with Liz that arguably worked.
GH writers have been trying to force Elizabeth and Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) together for quite some time, but it doesn’t seem to be working.
Finn was previously too controlling of Liz and had a real problem with sharing her business all over town.
It just seemed like Finn was constantly butting in and causing trouble.
Now the show’s working on correcting that, but Finn and Elizabeth’s romance still feels tainted – especially due to the Reiko Finn (Mele Ihara) rewrite and all the fake pregnancy deception that happened with Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss).
Maybe it’s time to try something new – well, sort of.
Viewers already have an idea about what Liz and Austin’s chemistry would look like if they got together due to Liz’s previous relationship with Franco.

Regardless, the show might be testing the waters based on spoilers for the week of April 17-21.
That’s when Liz will apparently flirt with Austin a bit. We’ll see Elizabeth shower Austin with compliments, so you could easily call that flirting!
