In tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy episode, Teddy was rushed to an OR. She had some kind of cardiac event on last season’s finale. She could die and they rushed her into surgery to save her life.

She had apparently suffered a heart event after developing a bacterial infection. She had been complaining about a toothache to her husband.

They didn’t think much of it and Owen regrets that now. Teddy needed cardiac surgery. Winston performed it. He had gotten Teddy through that and she was unconscious in a hospital bed when Winston told Owen to go home.

Owen had to tell his kids about their mother. He needed to warn them that Teddy might not be alright.

Own also had to go because Winston knew he would be a backseat driver. He would try to take over Teddy’s case. He wanted to be involved in everything and he can’t be that doctor right now because he was the patient’s husband first.

Owen ultimately did go home. He went after Amelia talked him into it. She’s the one that reminded him about the kids. She told him that they might be scared and that Owen has to think only good thoughts. For their sake if not his own. Owen was gone and the interns were in trouble.

Schmitt didn’t keep a close eye on them. He was focused on Teddy. He failed to notice that the interns had returned early from the wedding that never took place and they all got in trouble.

They didn’t stick to the guidelines that Nick set up. They all did things they weren’t supposed to. Blue and Jules ignored a DNI in place because the patient was Jules’s friend as well as surrogate grandmother. Blue saved Maxine’s life. He also opened them up to a lawsuit. Jules wasn’t a part of that decision. Or so she tried to claim to get out of being fired.

All of the interns might get fired. There was a patient that died on them. Nick was so angry with them. He told them to stay in the room. He explicitly said not to leave and they ignored him.

Mika got called by Winston to assist with Teddy’s case. Schmitt told Winston that the interns were under review, but Winston said he didn’t care about that.

He just cared about his patient. He needed someone to keep eyes on Teddy all day long. It’s what the interns were for. He called for Mika. She responded because he was technically the new head of cardiology.

Lucas and Simone also left that room. He left it first. She left because she wanted to talk to him. They haven’t really talked since she stood up her fiancé for him.

The two of them went where they were needed. They were both called out to an ambulance. There was man that needed to be taken inside the hospital. Only another car hit them. This car kept hitting them. It was a smart car running a test. It was self-driving. It seemed to hate that ambulance for some reason and kept driving into them. There was a passenger in the backseat of the self-driving car.

He works for the company behind the self-driving uber. He couldn’t shut down the car for some reason because it was ignoring the safeguards in place.

It had trapped Simone and Lucas in that ambulance with the patient. The patient was suffering from internal bleeding. Meredith was back in Seattle. She and Bailey did their best to talk the interns through surgery. Simone hadn’t wanted to do it. She was still gun shy after Sam died. Sam’s mother was actually at the hospital to collect his things. And a lawsuit might be pending because of his death.

It was in the face of these two possible lawsuits that Nick felt he had to fire someone. Which was why they weren’t supposed to leave that room.

They all ignored him and it actually was to the benefit of several patients. Lucas and Simone saved the guy in the ambulance. Blue saved the day by puncturing the self-driving car’s tires. The car stopped driving into things. It also unlocked the car so that the injured man in the backseat could get treated for his broken arm. Link was called to help with that arm. He was in the middle of talking to Sam’s mother and he kept getting called out to the scene.

Sam’s mother got offended. She felt like her son died because the doctors hadn’t been paying attention to her son. Her son talked about them like they were friends.

The fact that she couldn’t even keep Link’s attention showed that Link didn’t think the same about her son. Nor did he respect her loss. She lost a child and she needed someone to blame. Link became the easy scapegoat. Link helped the patient with the broken arm. The patient was more worried about the self-driving car. He didn’t want it to get towed. And so Blue was put in charge of that.

Lucas and Simone were allowed to scrub in to watch Meredith and Bailey perform surgery. It was on the patient they saved in the back of the ambulance. Meredith didn’t care that they were in trouble with Nick. Later, Teddy took a turn for the worse. She was rushed back into surgery.

Winston dismissed Mika without letting her assist because he didn’t think he could trust an intern under review with such a step. Mika broke down after that. She had called for Sam’s doctors. They never showed up. Link and Jo were so busy telling each other “I love you” that they forgot they were doctors. They forgot they had patients.

Mika took Jo to task for that. She said what she needed to say and she left. Sam was still dead even if Maxine survived. Maxine later woke up. She will make a full recovery.

She won’t be suing the hospital. Her story ended happily. Not everyone could say the same. Nick was so upset with the interns because he couldn’t leave the program with it under fire. He wanted to move to Boston to be with Meredith. Sure, Meredith got in trouble with her Alzheimer’s research. She got yelled at by Catherine only she still has a life in Boston. Nick wanted to be a part of that life.

Nick helped Meredith realized that she could go around Catherine. He also called the interns back to the lab. He knew they left. Teddy was okay.

Link’s patient was okay. Meredith and Bailey’s patient was okay. The interns ignored a direct order and they saved lives that day. And so none of them were fired.

Nick gave up running the program and Bailey was going to take charge.

Bailey was also going to be taking Richard’s surgeries while he works on his sobriety.

THE END!
