In tonight’s The Equalizer episode, Detective Dante took a chance. He made his move last week. He finally kissed Robyn McCall. She returned his feelings and so she kissed him back. They’ve had a few lunches since then. They were now pursuing a relationship outside of work.

Their first official date happened during an exercise training session. Taking down fake bad guys was considered very romantic. They also kept kissing during and after the session. They weren’t a boring couple to say the least. They’ve even discussed renting a cabin in the Catskills. And so the only downside to this new romance was that might cost Dante his job with NYPD.

Captain Watkins suspected Dante took part in taking down a known cop killer. She had assigned that case to someone else. She made Dante stay at his desk and he ignored that order. He’s been ignoring her orders for months now. It usually involved Robyn. Robyn would call in a favor or give him a tip.

He would pursue it all costs and so the detective went back to the office when his boss called in on his day off. Captain Watkins wanted to talk to him. He thought he was going to get fired. He instead was offered a job promotion. This new job comes with better hours and better pay. It was also based in California.

His new relationship with Robyn aside, Dante still shares joint custody with his wife. He couldn’t uproot his two boys. He also couldn’t leave his father’s side. His father was still in a coma at the hospital.

Only Dante wasn’t given a chance to turn down the promotion. He was told he either takes the new job with the Federal Task Force or he finds himself stuck to a desk for the rest of his career. Captain Watkins wanted to stop him running around with the Equalizer. She would have fired him if the District Attorney hadn’t told her that wasn’t an option.

Dante basically had to take the job or have nothing. He later discussed it with Robyn. She pushed him towards the new job. She told him that he could move into a governmental position once he was done with the task force.

He also would be able to change policy. Something they’ve both struggled with because the system is broken. Robyn left out the part where she was heartbroken. She protected herself and that’s why she wasn’t vulnerable with him. Why she wouldn’t talk him out of taking the job.

Robyn didn’t want to lose him. She also doesn’t know how to ask him to stay because she thought it might be selfish of her for doing so. Robyn chose to focus on the positive. She agreed to tour the military school with Dee and Aunt Vi. She was waiting to speak to the headmaster when Harry messaged her. Harry was back in town. He was done helping Colton Fisk. He was back to apologize to his wife and he thought she was in trouble when he didn’t hear back from her. He then searched for her phone. He found it ditched in some bushes.

Harry knew that Mel wouldn’t have dumped her phone. He started followed her last movements. Harry knows that Mel was trying to help a man named Eric from her veterans support group. It turns out Eric lured her to a rooftop by claiming he was going to kill himself. It was all a ruse to get her alone and then he stunned her with a stun gun.

He abducted Mel. He also had a partner to assist in the kidnapping. Eric wasn’t even his real name. Harry found that out the hard way. He had his AI find footage of whoever threw away Mel’s hone and he asked Fisk to identify him.

The man wasn’t in the military database. Though he was in the CIA database. His name was Billal Malik. He was working with his brother Imran Malik. They were killing everyone that was involved in the death of their father, Farhan Malik. Their father was a terrorist. He tried using his own wife as a human shield. When that didn’t work, he raised his gun at the Americans and they were forced to kill him. The two boys weren’t in the room at the time. They only know their mother’s version of events.

Their mother told them that their father was complying. She claimed he was unarmed. He wasn’t moving fast enough and that’s why they killed him. The brothers have been slowly killing everyone involved in the death of their father. They started out by killing other people in that unit.

They worked their way up to Mel when they forced her to read aloud a confession that they wrote. They were going to kill her afterwards. She bought herself time by saying she could assist them in finding their father’s body.

Mel accessed M.E.L to send a message to Fisk. She asked for his access to the CIA database. Fisk then calls Harry and Harry tried to talk Fisk into giving Mel access. He said he’d terminate the AI so that it couldn’t be accessed by anyone else. The AI heard him. She refused to help Harry right then and there. The AI thought it was the real Mel. She was even jealous of the real Mel. She didn’t care if she died. Harry found the real Mel another way. They found the man that picked up the brothers from the airport. And that led them to finding the warehouse where Mel was being kept.

The brothers were going to kill Mel when Fisk came through with a surprising person. Farhad Malik wasn’t dead. He was airlifted to a hospital after the shooting.

He was questioned and given a new identity to start over in the United States. He thought that by not telling his family that they could remember the good things. He was wrong about that. He also couldn’t convince his eldest son to stop hurting people. Imran threw a grenade. His brother jumped on it to protect everyone. Billal died instantly. Imran tried grabbing a gun and he was killed for it. And so Farhan watched both of his sons die tonight.

Afterwards, Mel made a decision for herself. She realized she still needed to process her PTSD. She was going to stop helping with the Equalizing stuff and she was going to focus on healing for now. It helps that M.E.L was terminated tonight once Harry realized she was out for herself.

Dee also decided to skip military school because she helps more people at her current school.

And Robyn decided to tell Dante how she really felt. It was just too late to change anything. Dante had already accepted the job in the taskforce and he was leaving the city to help put a stop to a ring of child predators. There’s no telling when he’ll be back.

THE END!
