In tonights Law & Order SVU episode, Kelsey Sommers was a tv reporter. She has her own segment. She also hasn’t dated much since her engagement imploded and so her date was the first time back out there. She went on a dating app. It put her in contact with this handsome guy.
He said his name was Tyler. He and Kelsey had an amazing date followed by a great night together. They were still messaging each other the next day. She even took risqué photos of herself to send it to him. She didn’t realize that dating was a different kind of beast in this new world and Tyler wasn’t as good of a guy he was pretending to be. He later used naked photos of Kelsey to extort money from her.
This “Tyler” wanted cash or he was going to send these photos to everyone on her contact list. He had already started doing that when Kelsey went out on a ledge. She wanted to kill herself. She was so humiliated that she couldn’t see how she’d survive. Her mother saw her go on the ledge.
She called 911. She explained what was happening and Captain Benson from the SVU showed up. Kelsey was being sextorted. It was a crime that was growing more popular. Benson helped Kelsey see that this doesn’t have to be the end and she agreed to get Kelsey justice.
Kelsey was taken to a psychiatric hospital. She was checked in. She was going to be held on a suicide hold. They usually cut off contact with the patient and the outside world for one of those.
They made an exception with Kelsey. She was interviewed at the hospital. She said Tyler sent her nudes the day after they slept together. She sent him photos back because she thought it was their secret thing. It was those photos that Tyler was left using a weapon. Kelsey tried to ignore him. And he upped the ante.
Tyler had set up a camera at the hotel. He waited until Kelsey was in the bathroom to set it up. Meaning he now has video of her having sex and her face is clearly visible.
Kelsey got a snippet of it while she was at the hospital. She actually checked herself out early to go to SVU. Kelsey said she must be cursed. Her ex-fiancé was horrible too.
He took their house, their dog, and her savings after the breakup. The one he didn’t get was her career. She was now about to lose that as well if a sex tape of her gets out.
Unfortunately, SVU has seen an increase of sextortion. It was increasing in everyone’s jurisdiction. There have been several cases and so the many victims were shown a picture of Tyler.
They didn’t recognize him. He wasn’t the same guy that sextorted them. There was one woman who thought she made a friend on a bereavement forum. She accidentally admitted she got payment after her parents died and he took photos of her after their night together to get the money for himself. The guys that do this are horrible.
SVU was having a hard time identifying Tyler. They decided to give him what he wanted. They had Kelsey agree to pay him the fifty grand and the cops were going to arrest him when he picked it up.
Only Tyler didn’t show up to get the money. He sent someone else to do it. Kelsey has never seen this other guy. She came close to nearly attacking him to find out where Tyler was hiding and the whole time their suspect played dumb. He denied knowing about the extortion. He denied knowing Tyler.
He was identified as Neil Marsh. He must be working with Nick and others because this drop-off was the same as the grieving young girl that had to give her parents’ savings away.
It turns out it was a ring. Neil later confessed to his part. He was once extorted himself. He sent compromising photos of himself to a gorgeous woman he met on the apps. This woman was the eye candy of a man that lives in Queens. The guy’s name was Constantine. He tried to get money out of Neil. When Neil proved to be too poor, Constantine used Neil to gage other victims.
Neil did background research on the victims. He chose them. The eye candy would then contact them and the victims got extorted. Neil agreed to assist the NYPD. He contacted Constantine.
He said that a big hitter from Mexico was in town. Constantine sent a pretty girl to meet with the heavy hitter who was in fact Detective Velasco. Velasco turned down her offer of going to a hotel room, but she was followed after leaving the restaurant. They saw her get money from her handler and moved in to arrest the guy.
He was identified as Constantine Koutris. He used to own his store. It closed due to fire. Some suspected he set the fire himself to collect the insurance money. Constantine refused to confess.
The girl he sent to Velasco was willing to talk. He said that Constantine has a brother named Basil. If evidence wasn’t at Constatine’s, it would be at Basil’s. Basil wasn’t home when the cops arrived. He was trying to book a flight out of the country. The cops caught him before he left on his flight back to Greece.
The cops arrested both brothers. They thought that would be the end – it wasn’t. The brothers had things on a timer. Kelsey’s sex tape still got sent to everyone at work. She was back to feeling suicidal. The only forward to move her case was to get the brother to turn against each other.
It was easy because Basil was trying to skip town with over eighty grand strapped to him. He also emptied his brother’s accounts. The cops have all the evidence they needed and Benson helped Kelsey save her career. Kelsey was now claiming she was undercover in the extortion ring.
She even interviewed Neil to further the lie. Kelsey got to keep her job and the other victims soon got their money back.
