In tonight’s Tracker episode, Colter Shaw was directly requested by a client. He once did a job for Olivia Barnett. He helped found her missing daughter and now she was referring him to people in need. Colter was hired by Lauren Wright. Her friends disappeared on her. Her entire friend group was hiking through the woods.
They were camped at night. Lauren went into town to send something for work and she returned to find the campsite deserted. Her four friends were gone. Most of their cell phones were still at the campsite. There was also blood on one of the tents. Lauren was afraid something happened to them because they wouldn’t have run off without telling her.
The friends were Monika, Jason, Sam, and Coop. Coop actually dated Lauren for a bit. There were no sparks. They decided they were better off as friends and he introduced her to his friend group.
They now known each other for years. It was one thing if they simply disappeared, but to not bring their cell phones with them made it look like they didn’t have a choice in leaving. Its why Lauren hired Colter. She couldn’t go to local police because they’d wait to file a missing persons report and she knew in her heart that something was wrong.
Colter quickly got to work in following the tracks. He later came across Sam. Sam had fallen and injured himself. Colter asked him about the rest of his friends. He said he went off on his own.
He didn’t know what happened to the others. He also mentioned hearing gunshots. Colter helped Sam get back to Lauren. Lauren took him to the hospital while Colter continued to look for the others. Sam said that the others were interested in checking out a nearby waterfall. Colter sought that waterfall out and he met someone on the journey. He met Keaton.
Colter could tell that Keaton was former law enforcement. His stance gave that away. Keaton also was armed and so the two men had a stare-off until they both took their hands off their guns. Colter admitted he was looking for a few hikers. Keaton helped him because he also overheard gunshots. The same as Sam.
Keaton said he was looking for a killer. He had several bodies over the years. They were all connected to that woods. He believed they were killed by that waterfall and both men checked the area. They found bullet casings. Someone was using the woods to hunt people.
It proved Keaton’s theory. Keaton was retired nowadays, but he still wanted to give the families closure. He was still looking for his killer and meeting Colter helped in more ways than one. Colter was a real tracker. Keaton knew the woods. He just wasn’t at his peak physical condition. It’s been a few years since he retired.
He doesn’t know what it takes to hunt someone in the woods and Colter does. Colter spotted paths that Keaton never saw for himself. The two of them found a lookout point. And that led them to the madman.
They got into a shootout with this man. They eventually overpowered him. They also called in the local cops. The man’s name is Marcus Wilson. He has a history of mental illness. He thinks that mountain belongs to him. He killed Keaton’s victims only he didn’t kill the friends that Colter was tracking. Colter got a chance to speak to Wilson. Wilson said he shot off warning shots. He didn’t feel the need to kill them because they were already trying to kill each other. Wilson identified Monika and Jason as holding Coop at knifepoint.
Monika and Jason are married. They marched Coop out of the woods to hide a secret. They did something eight years ago that they’re all ashamed of and Coop wanted to go to the police.
He wanted to report what they did. He also made a mistake by thinking his friends would back him. They instead lured him to the woods to kill him. They drugged Sam. Sam was wondering the woods that night because he had been drugged with anxiety medication. He didn’t have anxiety. Monika does and she has her own prescription.
Monika and Jason planned everything to the last detail. They had a car parked at the other exit. They drugged Sam so he wouldn’t be in fit condition to follow them. They waited until Lauren had to do something for work. They knew what they did when they put that trip together. Colter just doesn’t know why.
Sam and Lauren both said they were all really close. Colter didn’t know about the secret. What he knew was that Coop was secretly sending money to a woman named Natalie Perry. Reenie reached out to the woman.
She learned that Natalie’s husband disappeared. There were signs of a car crash along with one of Brian’s shoes. There was also some blood. There just wasn’t a body. His wife never knew what happened to him. He’s been gone for eight years. She suspected he was killed and she thought the mysterious money was penance.
The only evidence Natalie has was the tip line that the cops put in place. There were several calls about college kids driving drunk and it turns out the friend group was one of them.
Jason was drunk when he hit Brian. Monika his future wife and Coop the best friend helped cover up the crime. They buried the body where it couldn’t be found. The couple moved on with their lives.
Coop was the one that couldn’t move on. He kept a close eye on Brian’s family. He saw Brian’s son grow up. He felt like he owned them closure and so he told his friends he was coming clean. He also said that he has a backup plan in case anything happened to him. Coop wanted to trust his friends, but he wasn’t going to be stupid about it.
It was the backup plan that kept him alive. Otherwise his friends would have killed him in the woods. They instead took Coop hostage and they went back to his apartment. They found his backup plan.
Coop got into a fight with Jason. He killed Jason with the knife. Monika then freaked out. She hit Coop over the head with kettlebell. It was getting super messy when Colter saw the apartment. He saw the backup plan that Coop left. Monika didn’t think to destroy it before she took Coop’s body to the pier.
Colter saw the backup plan as well as the dead Jason. He and Keaton tracked down Monika as she was trying to get rid of Coop. He was still alive and Colter saved him by stopping Monika. Both Monika and Coop were later arrested for Brian’s death. And everything that came afterwards.
Reenie had been upset that Colter called in a favor while she was speaking to a new client. Only he offered to throw work her way. He also said thank you. Reenie was a great friend. The whole situation also introduced Colter to Keaton who was proving to be a great listening ear.
THE END!
