Fire Country Recap
Bode had a rough call last week. He was with someone for their final moments. He had to watch someone die and that was a trigger for him. The last time he broke sobriety was when his sister died. They were in a car together. She tried to throw herself out of it.
Bode tried to save her and he still had to watch her die when the car careened off the side of the road. After that, he left town. He stopped all contact with his loved ones. He did his best to die young and prison was surprisingly what saved him.
Bode has been clean since prison. Only some of his old habits were coming back. He was dreaming about Rafael. The man that died in front of him. He was also pushing away his loved ones. Bode was barely at the apartment.
He was going straight from working at Smokey’s to working at the firehouse. He was even sleeping at the firehouse. Gabriela noticed he was sleeping there. She tried to talk to him and he pushed her away. He told her he was fine. He wasn’t and the old rivalry between two high schools drudged up some old feelings.
Bode was a baseball player in high school. He got injured. He was given painkillers to heal and he became addicted to it. Him going back to the high school was another way of reopening his wounds. He also couldn’t rely on Audrey.
Audrey went back to North Carolina to get the rest of her stuff. Luke was taking her shift until she came back. Luke was about to move to Japan for a new work opportunity. He thought working with his brother and nephew would be a great way to end his time in the States. And Luke being there turned out to be a good thing.
Luke knew Bode. He knew his triggers. They got called to the scene of the fire at the high school’s baseball field. They all ran into Drew. Drew was the one that injured Bode. He was also a jerk.
The firefighters were there to help him and he still needled Bode. He kept bringing up rehab. He called Bode a loser. Drew was a high school coach while Bode was a firefighter and he still thought he was better than him.
Bode almost fought him at one point because the bullying got too much. His father and uncle stepped in before he fought the guy.
Luke later asked Gabriela what was up with Bode. He figured she’d know because she was close to Bode. When she said they didn’t have that kind of relationship anymore, he asked the firefighter to give her opinion on the probie. Gabriela told Luke that Bode has been having nightmares.
He lost someone on his last shift. She overhears him calling out for Rafael. Gabriela telling Luke that had him worried. He tried to talk to Bode as they were searching for their arsonist. It was just the two of them in front of the truck and Luke called him out for his behavior with Drew.
Bode then claimed that Drew stole his life. Luke pointed out that he didn’t. It wasn’t Drew that tried to play through the pain. It wasn’t Drew that kept taking more and more painkillers until he got addicted. Luke may not blame Bode for his addiction, but his choices were what led him there.
It wasn’t Drew’s fault. Drew merely had a dirty play. It was how Bode reacted to it that resulted him going to prison. Bode still hasn’t accepted that. He was too busy being depressed to notice the world didn’t revolve around him.
Jake was struggling with getting back into the dating field. There was a part of him that was self-sabotaging since Cara died. He was about to get engaged. He was in love. He was becoming a stepdad. Then Cara dies. He loses custody of his stepdaughter.
He was alone again and he didn’t know how to get back out there. Luckily, someone ended up coming to him. Jake stayed at the firehouse to deal with the victims of the rival high schools pranking war. There was a girl that came in because she was the mascot and the rival team glued her head gear on.
It was attached to the girl’s skin. It took Jake a while to free her. He got to talking to her older sister. The sister just got divorced and moved back to town. She was also very interested. She dropped some breadcrumbs that Jake was too afraid to pick up.
He luckily got called into work. There was a kid trapped in a drain pipe. His name was Nolan. He was also the arsonist. He smoke bombed the dugout. He did it to his own team. He was the starting pitcher and he cost them the last three games. And he didn’t want to be the reason they failed again.
Nolan started the fire because he was too afraid to fail. Drew was called in as his coach. He first reacted to Nolan getting stuck with anger and Bode calmed Drew down. Bode said that he was a good kid before he lost his way.
He didn’t want Nolan to end up like him. There was still a chance to save Nolan and that could only happen if Drew assisted the firefighters with keeping the kid calm. There was only one to rescue him.
It was also risky. Three Rock was brought in to help. They were down one firefighter because one of their guys got so sick.
Unfortunately, the prisoners rarely admit to being sick. They didn’t want to get transferred back to the infirmary. They were always afraid they’d never get a chance to return once they’re better and neither Manny’s promises nor Eve’s promises count if the warden holds onto them.
In spite of that, everyone worked together to save Nolan’s life. He missed the game and Drew was just glad he was okay. Drew also thought he was doing Bode a favor by giving him some prescription pills.
Drew tore his rotator cuff when he joined the Majors and it cost him career. And now he walks around with a whole bottle of painkillers.
Bode wasn’t the only one being reminded of his past.
Some alumni came back to town for the big game. One of them was Vince’s ex. Her name is Renee. She accidentally revealed to Sharon that Vince proposed to her after high school and she turned him down.
It was very awkward because Vince proposed to Sharon a year after he was willing to marry Renee. It made Sharon feel like she was the rebound. Then she spoke with her husband and he said Renee was the mistake. Sharon wasn’t. Sharon was the one that made him genuinely happy. Its why they’ve been married for thirty years.
And later the firefighters were called out to The Rock. Birch, the sick prisoner, lost consciousness.
His illness was worse than he admitted because he didn’t want to be transported back to prison. He sadly later died from not getting help right away.
The End!
