Duchess Kate Middleton is really trying to out-do her late mother-in-law Princess Diana when it comes to being the “People’s Princess.”
Not only does she shop at thrift stores and recycle the same outfits over and over again, she now can also add wearing fake diamond earrings in public to her list of thriftiness, even though she’s literally got a palace full of British crown jewels she could borrow.
According to the Huffington Post, 30-year-old Kate wore (gasp!) $75 cubic zirconia and pearl earrings to the Queen’s recent jubilee celebration. Ironic, because it was Queen Elizabeth’s diamond anniversary. Read More: Kate Middleton Stays High Street Cheap For Her People
And while some people have embraced Kate’s cheapness, other people are questioning why she can’t just act and dress like the royal princess that she is? Yes, the economy is still shaky in many parts of the world, but no one is going to accuse Kate of being Marie Antoinette if she borrows the occasional piece of real diamond bling from her grandmother-in-law’s closet. She is the future Queen consort of England, after all!
