James Brown, the self-styled “Godfather of Soul”, died yesterday after being diagnosed with severe pneumonia. Brown was 73. He was rushed to Atlanta’s Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta suffering respiratory problems on Sunday.
He seemed fine at first and even told people that he planned to be on stage in New York on New Year’s Eve.
But things detiorated and the singer, who had only recently recovered from surgery for prostate cancer two years ago, died at 6.45am BST. Doctors released a statement saying of death the cause was conjunctive heart failure.
