Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have a lot more in common with their characters on the Vampire Diaries than either of them will care to admit. For one thing, their age difference, while nothing rivaling that of their characters, is still quite significant. However, their chemistry together is so incredible that nothing else seems to matter, much like Damon and Elena on the show.
However, also like their characters Damon and Elena, Somerhalder and Dobrev seem to be living in a constant state of ‘are they together/are they not together’. While it’s clear for the world to see on the TV show, it’s more speculation in real life.
Tabloids have had a field day recently with the rumored breakup between the two, just because they weren’t seen together for more than a couple of days. However, reps for the stars were quick to issue a denial, and the duo were rumored to be spending Easter weekend together.
It’s an interesting notion to consider – love and devotion. What is devotion between Hollywood stars? We know what concepts mean on the show, as rabid fans who watch and analyze each episode. We understand the connection between Damon and Elena, and despite what may be best for each character, we root for them to get together [most of us, at least]. Hey, a part of it is pure shallowness, and wanting the two best looking actors on the show to hook up [although Paul Wesley gives Ian a good run for his money sometimes] plays a huge part in our wishes.
However, in real life, is it any different? Ian and Nina clearly got together after meeting on the show, and because their scenes together were so hot they couldn’t control their feelings anymore. Keep in mind, there is a very thin line between faking a love scene and doing it for real. It’s starting to feel like the drama on the show is starting to mirror real life – at least, is the tabloids had anything to do with it.
