On last episode while Mary Margaret went off on her own in an attempt to come to grips with what she did to Cora and how her deed had affected her, she stumbled upon August, who had hidden himself away from the others and was completely made of wood — ashamed at the actions he had taken in life; and Emma was shocked when Neal invited his fiancée, Tamara, to come to Storybrooke. Meanwhile, before the curse was cast, August was introduced to a man of magic who might have be able to prevent him from turning back into wood — but at a steep price.
On tonight’s show Mr. Gold enlists the aid of David to help him try to jog Belle’s now cursed memories and get her to love him again; and when it is revealed that the magic beans Anton (Jorge Garcia, “Lost”) and the dwarves have been harvesting have begun to grow and could possibly transport everybody home, Emma is torn over whether she would want to live in fairytale land or stay in our world. Henry blows out the candles on his cake. Granddaddy Rumple tells him he can pick any object from his shop as his birthday gift. Henry selects a magic wand! Gold shows him how to use it – he turns him into a glass figurine and then smashes him – he tells his assembled family that the prophecy said Henry would be his undoing so he has to kill him. Gold wakes in a sweat, upset by the vivid dream.
The next morning, he watches Henry and Neal play wooden swords. Regina comes on him and asks him why his son is playing with her son. Gold reveals that he is Henry’s grandpa. Regina is furious because it was Gold that “procured” Henry for her when she wanted to adopt. He tells her that fate can be a funny thing.
Regina tells him that he’s a dark soul and will hurt Henry. Gold tells her that he doesn’t know her. Regina minds him that even his own son Neal couldn’t bring out the good in him. She asks him who can? The answer seems to be at the hospital – he comes to see Belle. He tells her that even though she has no memory of him, he wants her to know that she loves him. He tells her that’s why he made the desperate call declaring his love when he was on his deathbed.
She tells him that she has an inkling that she has a past and believes he was part of her past. Belle tells him that she remembers him healing her. He reassures her and tells her that once her memory comes back, everything will be clear. She asks him to help her remember who she is. He tells her he needs her help being the good person she brings out in him. She agrees that they can help each other. Gold promises to get her released from the hospital.
In the far past in the enchanted land, Belle is crying in the “beast” Gold’s castle. He tells her he can’t take her crying. He conjures her a fluffy pillow and she says with it she may be able to sleep. He tells her it’s to muffle her cries. They hear a sound and he and Belle head down to investigate. There’s a robber in the house trying to steal a wand. Gold tells him the wand can do nasty things if you don’t know how to use it.
The intruder knocks a magic arrow and takes aim at Gold who magic’s himself out of the way but is then shit by the arrow. Gold laughs and pulls the arrow out. He tells him all magic comes at a price and he’s the price the intruder will pay.
As Belle is packing to leave, Regina comes in and introduces herself as the mayor. She tells Regina that Gold is getting her discharged and wants to help her with her memories. Regina magics a matchbook into appearance and hands it to Belle. She says she doesn’t think she dropped it but Regina tells her to keep looking and she might remember. Belle stares at it and has a recollection. She tells Regina she thinks she remembers who she is. Regina tells her Mr Gold will be thrilled – I’m guessing not so much.
Tamara promises Greg that they will find his dad. Greg’s sure he’s still there. He asks her about the “package” and she tells him it’s across the city line because it’s unstable and that she’ll bring it over tonight. Hmm… intrigue!
Emma’s parents bring her out into the middle of nowhere to show her something. They walk through a magical wall and find Anton and his crop of magic beans that are growing heartily. Emma asks why he’s so small and he tells them that Regina and Cora shrunk him down. He’s working with the dwarves and they’re making amazing progress.
Emma realizes her parents were growing the beans to go back home. She asks them what about the ogres and dangers and Charming tells her they can fix all of that. They want the whole family to go back together. Snow wants to escape from what she did to Cora and thinks the enchanted land is the place to do it. Charming tells her she’ll find her happy ending there.
Gold comes to Belle’s room and finds it empty. He panics – the nurse has no idea where she’s gone. Gold finds The Rabbit Hole matchbook Regina gave her. Gold comes into the club and asks the bartender about her. He describes her and he tells him it sounds like Lacey. The girl in question is playing pool and she tells him she remembers who she is – she’s Lacey – and apparently quite the pool hustler.
Back in the enchanted land, we see Belle sweeping the great hall. Rumple tells her he needs a new apron – apparently his got bloody torturing the mystery intruder. Belle tells him that’s no way to treat someone – even a thief. He’d been planning to skin him alive. Rumple leaves and Belle goes to help the thief. She gives him water and unties him. He doesn’t want to leave without her – he’s afraid she’ll kill Belle for helping him. She tells him she can’t leave because she made a bargain with him to keep her family safe.
Gold demands to know what Regina did to Belle. She gave her back her memories from the cursed time. Regina tells him Lacey is here to stay because her enchanted land memories went away for good when she stumbled across the city line. Gold threatens her and she tells him that he needs to be on his best behavior for his new family. The only fix is true love’s kiss but Regina doesn’t think Gold will be able to get her to love him again. Regina tells him to give her best to Lacey and he storms out.
Granny is packing up a to-go order for the dwarves and asks what they’re doing out in the field. Grumpy tells them they’re landscaping. Gold comes in and tells Charming that Regina gave Belle back her Lacey memories. He wants to know how Snow and he found each other even with their clouded memories. Charming doesn’t want to help – he reminds him that Gold got Snow to kill for him and Gold reminds him that Cora would have killed all of them. Gold says if he helps, he’ll owe him a favor. Charming tells him to show Belle/Lacey the man he fell in love with.
Back in enchanted land, Rumple sharpens his knife and tells Belle it may get loud. He goes into the prison and finds the thief gone. He tells her that reading her books is making his brain soft. He magics her book away. She tells him the thief only wanted to get away with his life – but he shows her that he stole the wand on his way out. He tells her he only wanted the magic. He tells her he’s going to find the thief and shoot him with his own bow and she’ll come with him to watch it.
Lacey’s at the bar and shooes away a guy hitting on her. Gold comes in and finds her and chats her up. Charming is nearby coaching him – Cyrano style… She’s trying to figure out what kind of music he likes and he works up the nerve to ask her out. She tells him she knows people are scared of him. He asks for a chance and she tells him to meet her tonight at Granny’s. Charming congratulates him but Gold is still nervous.
On the docks, Regina finds Emma reading. Regina wants to know how long she was going to keep Gold’s relationship to Henry from her. She wants to know why Neal is there and Emma tells her that he wants to spend time with Henry. Regina reminds her that neither of them wanted to spend any time with Henry the first 10 years of his life. Emma tells her that she needs to relax and be the person Henry wants her to be and quit all the scheming. Regina knows Emma is hiding something and tells her that she’s going to find out what it is. She storms off!
At Granny’s, Belle/Lace and Gold ponder their menus. Lacey asks if he’s nervous and he says no. Gold tries to order burgers and teas for them but she picks chicken parmesan and wine – she asks for the whole bottle. She tells him he’s classy, but that she’s heard that he’s powerful and he got the power from hurting people. He tells her he’s a simple shop owner and procurer of hard to find items. She wants to know why people are scared of him – she said she sees a man who wouldn’t hurt anyone.
Lacey tells him you can’t tell what’s in a person’s heart until you truly know them. He spills his drink in shock – it’s something she’d said to him before apparently.
Back in the enchanted past, Belle and the Beast/Gold are in a carriage pursuing the thief. She encourages him to give up the chase and tells him he’s not as dark as he thinks he is. She tells him there’s love in his heart deep down. She tells him if he was that bad, he would have killed her for letting the thief loose – he tells her good help is hard to find.
He tells her his heart is much darker than he ever thought. Gold runs into the drunken sheriff and tells him he’s looking for the thief. The sheriff offers him a deal – he wants a night with his wench. Gold says she’s not for sales and then he says how about for 20 minutes. Gold magics out the sheriff’s tongue and tells him he’ll give it back if he tells him the truth.
The sheriff tells him the thief is hiding out in Sherwood Forest, stole his woman and made a mockery of him. He tells him the thief’s name is Robin Hood!!! OMG – a cool new character!
Dinner is served at Granny’s, but Belle/Lacey is nowhere to be found. Gold looks around for her but he can’t find her.
Back in the enchanted past, Belle follows Rumple into the woods and tells her she has to stay with him – has to watch. They see the thief waiting on someone – it’s a carriage with a sick woman in the back. Rumple prepares to shoot him, but Belle stops him. He uses the wand to kill the woman. Belle tells him he used it to heal the woman he loves. Rumple is unmoved. He magics her halfway down into the earth so she’s trapped. Belle insists that he stop – the woman is pregnant – she tells him he wouldn’t leave a child fatherless. She screams no as he looses the arrow. It misses Robin and she asks what happened. He tells her he missed. Robin and Marian run away. He releases Belle – she tells him the bow couldn’t have missed because it’s magic. She hugs him and they leave.
Gold finds Belle/Lacey making out with the sheriff in the alley. Gold chases the guy away. She insists she’s fine and he realizes she wanted to be out there with the guy. She tells him she was only on a date with him to be nice. He tells her that it was the nice part she always liked in him. Lacey tells him Belle may have loved him, but says she’s not her. She rushes away and he says to himself “No, you’re not.”
The bean field workers are getting dropped back off in town after a hard day’s work and Regina watches with interest. As the truck drives away, she touches the road and a magical path lights the way for her to follow. She goes out to the fields and sees nothing. She walks forward and touches the magic spell that shields the crop and is stunned. She walks into the bean field crop and smiles a wicked smile.
The sheriff chases down Gold and apologizes. He says he didn’t know they were still together. Gold tells him they’re not. The sheriff says so, no hard feelings. But Gold says there’s no point to his best behavior and takes out the sheriff’s tongue and strikes out at him with his cane.
Back in the enchanted past, Belle and Rumple arrive back at the castle. He takes her up into his library and shows her all the books. He tells her it’s just one more room to clean, but she’s thrilled. She asks if he did it for her and he tells her that he’d better not see any dust in the room. She smiles and tells him he’s not who she thought he was and she’s glad.
Gold beats him mercilessly and says he should have done it a long time ago. Lacey comes upon him beating the sheriff and she tells him what they said about him is true. Gold tells her it’s all true. She says he’s not who she thought he was and she’s glad. She seems delighted that he’s dark. The sheriff is struggling for breath. He tells her he’s much darker and continues beating the sheriff while she watches, smiling. Oooh – Belle gone bad!
Neal brings in Henry slung over his shoulder dead asleep. He tells her they played in the park all day. Emma asks Neal if he would ever go back to the enchanted land. He says he spent years of his life trying to forget it. He tells her August/Pinocchio came to the park today and played with Henry and it’s weird seeing him as a kid. She says she wishes she knew what he was trying to warn them about before he got “rebooted.”
Greg and Tamara meet at the city line and she asks if they’re ready to open the package. He wonders if he’ll cooperate and she says yes – that you can always count on a pirate to do your dirty work. She opens the truck and there’s Hook – all trussed up and looking angry!
The End!
